CHEVRON PENGASSAN 5TH TRIENNIAL BRANCH DELEGATE CONFERENCE HOLDS IN ABUJA

The Chevron PENGASSAN Triennial Branch Delegate Conference holds once in every three years and usually results in the election of new branch executives. Chevron PENGASSAN has had series of triennial branch delegates conferences in its quest for leadership that will further position and steer the union to actualizing it mission and goals. This being the 5TH promised to be best ever.

The two days 5th Triennial Branch Delegates Conference of Chevron PENGASSAN with the theme: IMPLICATIONS OF OUTSOURCING, JOB OFFSHORING & TECHNOLOGICAL ADVANCEMENT IN THE OIL AND GAS INDUSTRY commences today , 6th February to end 7th February, 2020 at Reid Continental Hotel , Abuja. The two days 5th Triennial Branch Delegates Conference of the Chevron PENGASSAN has a successful opening.


The opening was creamed by the Hon. Minister, FCT and his counterparts from Petroleum Resources, Chief Timipre Sylva, Labour and Employment, Chief Festus Keyamo through representatives.


Comrade Ete Omotsone Oyegbanren in his branch chairman’s welcome address while welcoming delegates, observers and invited guests described the choice of Abuja as the venue of the conference as strategic.
“The outgoing branch executives which I currently lead was elected in Benin at Precious Palm Royal Hotel in Benin City, we have had the opportunity to be at the fore front of the struggle to better the welfare of our members across the company and what a joy it was.”


The branch chairman also noted in his speech that they have shown commitment to collaborate with management for the good of their members and also rise to the occasion and defend their mandate and benefits of all members.
The branch executives incollaboration with other members and stakeholders in the three years term has put up strategic leadership resulting to mid year promotion in 2017 of over 50 employees, cumulatively between 2017 to 2018, over 200 employees we’re promoted, empowerment of members as well as training for Congress members in Lagos 2017 and Portharcourt in 2018 covering all aspects of industrial relations, trade union and personal financial management , exposed global negotiations training in Houston for branch executive in 2018 and training opportunity for Seven (7) BEC members.


The leadership working with other stakeholders in PENGASSAN were able to get two of our own elected into the CWC, the immediate past Warrior Zonal Secretary, also represented in Lagos and Warrior zones; this he said has increased their participation in the trade union activities across the country.


IMPLICATIONS OF OUTSOURCING, JOB OFFSHORING & TECHNOLOGICAL ADVANCEMENT IN THE OIL AND GAS INDUSTRY being the theme of the 5th triennial conference was carefully chosen to reflect the evolutions in the oil and gas industry and in particular it’s effect on trade unionism.

Barr. Uche Attoh, an erudite practitioner scholarly presented a paper on the theme and shed light on issues as they are been shaped by industrial relations circumstances both locally and globally.

Delegats who spoke with panafricanreporters shortly after the opening of the conference expresses optimism in the future of the union.
When asked on the kind of leader they expects to emerge from the conference, they said life generally is a continuous motion for development adding that the Union above other things in view of the fact that the entire leadership are leaving for new ones to come on board. It is our hope and expectation that the leadership that will be emerging from the conference will be the kind that will put upon themselves the challenges of the union, provides solution in that regards and of course unify the entire segment of the union. They also acknowledged the plethora challenging bedeviling the country hence, hope to produce Union Leaders that will partner and collaborate with other leaders and stakeholders when necessary for national development.
