What a curious topic of discussion? A quick glance at this topic might force someone to ask “How can God be proud of a mortal man?” This is because many of us believe that no mortal has the ability to satisfy the righteous conditionalities of God. A mindset such as this forms the reasons many are complacent with their sinful lives. Those in the school of thought that no one satisfies God’s prescribed righteousness refer to the Bible passage which says that all righteousness of man is like filthy rags before God (Isa. 64: 6). It will be correct to say God does not measure man’s holiness with His own because He judges man’s righteousness in His own ways. We all know that righteousness is obeying God’s commandments faithfully. As true as all the sentences above are correct, one can do things that God can be proud of him/her. God was proud of Abraham when He commended him for his teaching his family members God’s laws (Gen. 18: 19). God was proud of Job when He told Satan that there is no righteous man on earth like Job (Job 1: 8.
God created us all in His likeness and after His image. By this He knows we can do wonderful good things which will make Him be proud of us. Every human has the capacity on the inside to do righteous and upright things to make God be proud of him/her. According to our Deacon, Zakari Ebiloma, while commenting on one of Daily Hope Devotionals, “a child of a natural man who resembles his father in physiques and character attracts the father’s soft spot and has the father’s love in abundance. Of course, the father can be said to be proud of that child.”
Being of likeness with God and His image, when we exhibit God’s complete good ways of behaviours; He will be proud of us. Our moral qualities have to be purely and spiritually upright. We are to behave in loving natures created by God as well as doing our best to assist people to attain meaningful living standards. We are to behave in characters which befits image of God.
Living a life of goodwill, looking for one to build up in uprightness and righteousness as well and ensuring that one around us enjoys maximum supports as fellow being, makes God to be proud of us. Life of righteousness, uprightness, human development and multiplying seeds of goodness in people is part of multiplication God said we must multiply in the Bible (Gen. 1: 28).
Not until we do exactly want God wants us do, we will hardly make Him to be proud of us. But Satan always makes it easier for mankind to do evil things knowing that, that makes God to be angry with mankind. However, the Holy Spirit is willing to help us do things which will make God be proud of us. The Holy Spirit assists us in projecting the image and likeness of God. Once you allow the Holy Spirit to partner with you, He empowers you do what God will be proud of you. The choice is yours today, you reading this devotional!
