The Nigeria Immigrants Service has expressed commitment to mitigating corruption and improve service delivery in service.
The service makes the commitment during the 2024 Nigeria Immigration SERVICOM/ACTU nationwide sensitization and enlightenment campaign with the theme “Mitigating Corruption and Improving Service Delivery in Nigeria Immigration Service.
Chief Superintendent of Immigration (CSI) 2i/c Servicom/reform champion, EA Endabwedi in his speech emphasises the important of service, says ” Service delivery or rendering service is at the very core and essence of our lives as human beings. Whether as spouse, parent, children or any other kind of family relationship or in the larger cycle of Work and business relationships,
interactions and transactions, the need to render service inspires and drives
our daily routines.
The Holy Books of most of the known religions of the world and the rich
deposits of managerial treatises and teachings as we have today regard man as a servant – born, made, wired to serve: finds meaning, health and fulfilment in service.
Endabwedi drawing reference from the Holy book-the Bible cited an injunction.
“So likewise ye, when ye shall have done all those things which are cormmanded you, say, we are unprofitable servants; we have done that which was our duty to do’. Luke 17:10 (KIV).
Applauding the service he said the Nigeria Immigrants Service above the public perception of sloppiness in the public service has through the Servicom and ACTU unit has questioned the status quo and advocates a shift in paradigm.
The Servicom unit of the NIS is saddled with the responsibility of supervising and monitoring service delivery with a view to identifying lapses or system failure and addressing same with customer satisfaction as the main objective, managing the performance expectation gap between the service and service takers.
“We are confident that more than before,the 2024 Servicom/ACTU Sensitization Programme will up the ante in terms of efficiency and quality services delivery with accountability and integrity in NIS. As always, the NIS is setting the pace again and we are privilege to be part of history making”
Reacting to the theme of the sensitization, a representative of the national coordinator/ Chief Executive Servicom, Mrs. Okonzi said the theme of the day is apt and is the path of building strong institutions, hails the Interior Minister for his innovation in automating most of the service.
Enjoins NIS on better service where people will be better served with accountability, protecting and projecting the image of the country. Achieving this required that we eliminate corruption.
While people make case for poor pay as reason for poor services and sharp practices, she opinioned that irrespective of the poor pay and the quest to through corruption pile up resources for the generation, mitigating corruption will help to further enhance service improvement and a better living for all.
Similarly in brief lecture by the representative of Chairman Independent Corrupt Practice Commission (ICPC) Mr. Adebayo said corruption is when you use your official position for personal gain instead of the general interest adding that this is prevalent in Procurement, Acct. & Finance, Human Resources & Admin.
However, said corrupt practices does not only take place at the top management level but thrive even at the lower level at the security post where bribe is collected to open gate and other sharp practices at work place for self gain.
ACG IE ANIETUM in reaction said corruption is an evil in our society which has eaten deep into the fabrics of society hence, call for fight against corruption which she said can not be over emphacize .
“The fight begins with us, is start by being disciplined and following the principles of accountability and transparency, with this corruption will be mitigated and better services guaranteed”.
