Yesterday’s devotional exposed certain things we do that are tantamount to profaning the name of the Lord. We touched things such as having disrespect for God by refusing to reverence Him, worshipping Him, serving idols instead of serving Him etc. Others include involving oneself in sacrileges by destroying God’s holy buildings and things dedicated to Him. God values people congregating together in His place of worship on Meeting days or Holy Days. Failure to do so means profaning the name of the Lord. Today’s devotional will expatiate more on things we do which profane the name of the Lord.
Many Christians avoid going to God for solutions to their problems. Rather, they go to “native doctors” idol shrines as well as dens of demon worshippers giving out monies for provisions, protections and deliverances. God says those who go to give their seed to Molech defile His Sanctuary and profane His Holy name (Lev. 20: 3). Molech is one of the Jewish gods they go to; to sacrifice their children as burnt offerings. In the days of Moses, some devoted Jews, even some of the priests, go to marry harlots/prostitutes or marry divorced women. God said doing so is profaning His Holy name (Lev. 21: 7, 14). These are what some Christian Leaders do and approved for the members of their ministries in this our generation. For sake of material acquisition. Christians now marry divorcees who are rich and wealthy even though of questionable livestyles and unrepentant.
Another thing that profanes the name of the Lord is refusing to differentiate unclean things from the clean things. This means accepting unclean things, habits, cultures, practices etc., as clean things and engaging self in such. These things are captured in Ezek. 22: 26). These days, people mix up clean and unclean things and adopt them as good. We eat human beings, we sniff smelling pits or rotten things to become high, some youths today eat fresh chicken with the feathers so as to become rich and wealthy. It is profanity to have sex with one’s biological father, mother, daughter or son (Amos 2: 7). We can add trending modern preaching of using sophistries and scientific philosophies based on human knowledge rather than depending on the sound Biblical knowledge. This is done deliberately to attract people to our churches for material gains. Apostle Paul warned Timothy against such (1 Tim. 6: 20 – 21; 2 Tim. 2: 16). The beloved, avoid any thing the Bible says is profanity.
ACT NOW: Please, check your heart, your habits and characters; which one tally with profaning the name of the Lord? Just confess them and turn away from them.
PRAYER:
ALMIGHTY FATHER, I am convinced that none of my works are righteous enough. I agree to have profaned your Holy name severally. Forgive me of all today in Jesus name. Grant me right standing before you in the name of Jesus Christ.
