Over 50 Reps Members of the 10th House of Representatives has been threaten to face recall from the constituents if their identities and profiles are known by the public for taking side with the high scale corruption in NNPCL and NMDPRA.
Some Members of the House of Representatives, spearheaded by Hon. Billy Osawaru, are facing the threat of recall due to their endorsement of the alleged corruption prevailing in the nation’s oil and gas sector.
This development transpired subsequent to the House of Representatives’ call for an inquiry into the actions of international Oil Companies (IOCs) in Nigeria, who are suspected of colluding to obstruct the progress of Dangote Oil Refinery and Petrochemicals.
The House advocated for the removal of Farouk Ahmed, the head of the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA), and intensified pressure on Mele Kyari of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL).
In a joint statement penned by Arome James Otairu and Bilikus Adamu, the National President and Secretary General of the Save Nigeria Proactive Coalition, respectively says Osawaru and his colleagues were denounced as “unscrupulous members of the National Assembly camouflaging as representatives of the people, while their actions expose their actual allegiance to corruption and mismanagement.”
The coalition challenged Osawaru’s unnamed fellow lawmakers to disclose their complete identities and constituencies within the next 24 hours, daring them to face the possibility of recalls by their constituents.
The coalition further vowed to rally Nigerians in Abuja, Lagos, and Kaduna against Osawaru and his allies, compelling them to step down once Kyari and Ahmed are ousted.
“We are deeply dismayed by the conduct of approximately 50 legislators who lent their support to Mele Kyari and Farouk Ahmed, despite their evident ineptitude and shortcomings in overseeing the oil industry,” the statement expressed.
“These dishonorable members of the National Assembly feign to be advocates of the people, yet their actions unveil their actual alignment with corruption and mismanagement.
“Their endeavor to shield Kyari and Farouq from liability serves as a clear indication of their involvement in the substantial failure, corruption, and mismanagement that have plagued the oil sector under their supervision.”
