Today’s devotional is discussing “unequally Yoked Together in Business.” Many divided views come into play when discussing whether a professing Christian should team up with one who is not a Christian. Some see it a no go area, while others see it as normal. There is no categorical statement in the Bible against Christians entering into business partnership with non-Christian.
However, Christian principles and moral teachings proffer cautions against “unequally yoking together” between a professing Christians and individuals who are not believers in the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob. Differences between Christian ethics against the non-Christian ethics could offer Christians cautions to thread carefully.
Here are few explanations of what makes partnering with unbelievers with believers results to “unequally yoked together.” When a Christian partnered with a non-Christian and allowed the partner influenced him or her into doing all the so called sharp practices for “get rich quick”; such a Christian has “unequally yoked” self in the business.
A Christian Doctor who teamed up in hospital business, and agreed with the unbeliever partner to handle abortions, has been unequally yoked together.
A Christian brother or sister running contract business with an unbeliever, who agreed with the unbeliever to convince him or her into inflating costs of contracts, has been unequally yoked together. Anything done under agreement with business partner that portrays cheat for extraordinary gain is evil and unequally yoked._
Many Christians are into so many businesses with unbelievers today which contain lots of false schemes to get wealthy. Many Christians are now partnering with online businesses with partners who are not known physically, promising 100%/200% quick turn overs, regarding the successes as financial breakthrough. This devotional opines that such actions equal to “unequally yoke together.”
The Bible contains passages that condemn false measures and false scales in businesses (Deut. 25: 13-16; Prov. 20: 10, 23; Michal 6: 11), to mention but few. In all these passages, it will be seen that such practice is abomination to the Lord. Best thing to do if you must team up with a non-Christian in business is to have clean agreement how the business will be run. What this means is that the values and visions, products and practices of the enterprise must be consistent with godly spiritual ethics. Anything shot of this calls for “separation from the business partner (2 Cor. 6: 14).
PRAYERS:
1. Ask the Lord to show you good businesses that can be done in righteousness without attempts to inflate costs or cheating for gains, in the name of Jesus.
2. Ask the Holy Spirit of God to always join you with business partners who have the fear of the Lord, filled with the knowledge of the Holy Spirit of God, in the name of Jesus.
