Spurred by the wave of support and endorsements by colleagues and various socio-cultural groups across the country, Member representing Gombi/Hong Federal Constituency and aspirant to the position of Speaker,House of Representatives, Hon.Yusuf Buba Yakub has expressed joy that Nigerians from diverse backgrounds in tongue and religion could be so united as to pursue a common goal with zeal and commitment.
“I have been pleasantly surprised by my recent discovery that, when allowed to relate and work on our own terms,we have neither religion nor ethnicity as a hindrance among ourselves. We have no suspicion for one another as Nigerians and, in fact,we go all out to plan to win together. On this quest for Speaker of the Green Chamber, people from all walks of life, people from all tribes and different religions have visited me to express their support and solidarity. This goes to show that there is hope for our country and that we can achieve whatever we want to achieve as a people as long as we are united.”
Hon.Buba, who made the above observation, Friday,in Abuja ,when some leaders of the Middle Belt Union paid him a courtesy call, lauded the unity of purpose that exists among Nigerians supporting his ambition to be Speaker of the Ninth House of Representatives. He said his present venture into the quest for the House Speakership has shown that Nigerians, in spite of our diversity, have no problems relating well and truly with one another and that certain notions that promote differences are actually artificial.
The Adamawa State-born lawmakerr, who is Chairman,House Committee on Nigeria-China Relations, also, used the occasion to thank the group for the confidence they reposed in him. He called on the leaders of the group to ensure that their region live in harmony with other Nigerians among them, saying such peaceful coexistence was necessary to advance the Nigerian union.
Earlier , The Chairman of the Middle Belt Union,George Samuel Omoiyan ,said, having taken time to go through the list of those aspiring to be Speaker of the 9th House of Representatives, they had found that Hon. Buba was a tested leader, who possessed the requisite maturity, capacity and competence to galvanise the actors and activities of the 9th House for national development.
While reiterating their call on the lawmaker to stand resolute on his quest, the group urged Hon. Buba not to be deterred or swayed by the activities of those they termed “money bags”, who, they said, were merely out to use money to deceive those they have no intention of working for. The group also used the opportunity to pray for peace everywhere in the land, stressing that peace was what the nation needs to move ahead in these peculiar times.
