NANS PRESIDENT, COMRADE DANIELSON AKPKAM COMMENDS INEC ON VOTER’S EDUCATION
Comrade Daniels on Akpam, the president, National Association of Nigeria Students (NANS) in an interaction with our panafricreporters at Sheraton Hotel and Towers Abuja, Wednesday, 3rd July 2019 at the Independent National Electoral Commission meeting with Civil Society Organisations (CSOs) on the review of the 2019 General Election commends the electoral umpire on voter’s education however held the view that while reviewing INEC performance and general success of the 2019 general election, it is swift to commend them in areas they have done and identify the grey areas where they need to improve on.
He referenced the postponement of the presidential election as one among the critical grey areas that remains a puzzle to many Nigerians and the loses incurred are yet to be gained. He however appeal to INEC and stakeholders to be in the watch to avoid reoccurrence of same in future elections.
The comrade who frown at the manner in which adhoc staff for the election especially students and corps members were left stranded on the streets thereby exposing them the antics and hazard of desperate politicians which could prelude the tendency to compromise the integrity of the election.
On the outcome of the 2019 general election, the NANS 01 said , the matter is already being handled by legitimate constituted Tribunal of competent jurisdiction hence can not comment on that that so as not to amount to contempt of court.
The President of NANS noted that Nigeria students is a critical stakeholder in the Nigeria electoral process hence played critical roles in the electioneering process recognizing the Nigeria students and youth constitutes the highest voting population (people with PVC) which is about 23% of the total voting population of the country.
“At this point, we must continue to be engaged in more sensitization for Nigerians to know that this country belong to them and should endeavour to come out and decide who become their leader at all levels governance and representation”, he said.
Comrade Danielson Akpam further bear his mind on the prevalence of crime amongst Students and Nigeria youths ranging from rape, sexual harassment, drug abuse, human right violence, cultism, cyber crime and other social ills in the Nigeria societies; appeals to all well meaning Nigerians to partner with National Association of Nigeria Students and support Nigeria government end the menace of social ill in the country. He charges Nigeria youths especially the students to take up fight against criminality through all legitimate options while assuring them of government support.
The president, NANS vowed to continuously add the voice of NANS to other voices both locally and internationally to ensuring total elimination of crime amongst students and ride our society of crime.
