
New Leader emerged for Trade Union Congress of Nigeria
The 11th Triennial Delegates Conference of the Trade Union Congress of Nigeria (TUC) was held on 27th and 28th June, 2007, in Abuja, Nigeria.
It was a successful Conference and was described by comrades as peaceful, transparent, free and fair and conclusive without rancor.
At the Conference, Comrade Quadri Olaleye emerged as the new Leader of the Congress in affirmative election after a motion was moved, seconded and affirmed by the entire house.
Comrade Amedu Olayinka, Chairman, Trade Union Congress of Nigeria, Abuja chapter in an interaction with panafricreporters expresses confident in the newly inaugurated leadership of the union.
On the election, Comr. Amedu says, the joy on everybody’s face is an expression of oneness in the process and acceptability of the outcome from the election adding that the election is transparent, free and fair.
Nigeria workers represent the true interest of the masses who will handle and utilize public fund for the interest of all hence the need for the Nigeria workers in politics says Amedu.
Comrade Quadri Olaleye, accordingly succeeded Comrade Bala Kaigama as the new Leader.
TRADE UNION CONGRESS OF NIGERIA (TUC) is the second Labour Centre in Nigeria (after Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC) having been registered by the Federal Government of Nigeria on 9th September, 2005.
Comrade Kaigama Bala, the immediate past president of Trade Union Congress of Nigeria express fulfillment for a successful conference, dissolutions and handover to a new set of leaders to steer the ship of the union further.
Comrade Peter Esele, an out-gone president of the union expresses optimism in the leadership succession pattern of the union however, admonished the emerged leaders from the conference to see themselves as servant while he tasks all union members to support the newly elected leadership in unison against oppression. He also note the need for Nigerian workers to take their place in national politics.
Comrade Adams Oshomole earlier thanks the outgoing president and union members for keeping the tenets of the union and been able to maintain the oneness of the trade union over the years. He described the Nigeria workers as true Nigerians who contributed more to the economy through their taxes and their professional engagements in all sectors of the economy adding that trade union activism is more an action than talk hence assured the workers of his prompt present on the day of actions and reaffirmed his commitment to position Nigeria workers for the best in the country.
The newly emerged leader of the union, Comr. Quadri Olaleye in his speech assured union members of his commitment to running and inclusive trade union and appeals for their support and cooperation to win the battle ahead of the union for the betterment of Nigeria workers.
Comr. Shehu M., the chairman of Kaduna chapter, Trade Union Congress of Nigeria moved for the adjournment of the conference till 2022 while a female comrade seconded .
