Edo University, founded in 2016, located in Etsako West local government area and situated in the serene and peaceful environment of Iyamho in Edo State and approved by the National University Commission as the 41st state university on the 23rd March 2016, is one of the youngest state universities in Nigeria, Edo University, is trendsetting sustainable solutions in research and agriculture.
Established with the vision to become a centre of excellence in quality teaching, research, innovation and community development; this the prestigious university has validated in her two years of existence as the university was adjudged the Best State University and Third Best University in Nigeria based on the results of the Open Education Resources Ranking conducted by the National Universities Commission (NUC).
The University (EUI) unarguably is trendsetting sustainable solutions in research and agriculture in tandem with Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in providing sustainable solutions in the direction of

panafricreporters at the exhibition of publications on R&D results, science, technology, innovation and entrepreneurship (SITE) organised by Raw Materials Research and Development Council in collaboration with the University of Abuja on 17th June, 2019 gathered that EUI has secured patent for sustainable agriculture encapsulated with vision 2050 to

√. Prevents the utilization of agrochemicals.

√. Food safety
“New Generational ecofriendly biopesticides derived from endophytic Bacteria for the management of tomatoes plant diseases.”
The University has also added to her credits
- Biopesticides that could replace synthetic agropesticides
- Edible coatings that could prolong the shielf life of fruits and vegetables
- Production of cheaper Animal feeds using various agricultural wastes by biotechnological approaches.
- Presentation of HIV/AIDS self management education implementation model.
Worthy of of note is the fact that all programmes at EUI are approved and accredited by relevant bodies and, in addition to providing quality education in terms of academics, the university is poised to produce skilful entrepreneurs and world-class athletes as evident in its Entrepreneurship Development Centre and sports complex. At the Entrepreneurship Development Centre, all students are mandated to undertake at least two units of entrepreneurial training per year while there is an arrangement in place to reward every graduating student with the best entrepreneurial idea with a huge sum to start a business.
It was further revealed to panafricreporters that the management of the institution, led by the ingenious Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Emmanuel Aluyor, has earlier signed a memorandum of understanding with two universities, namely, Worcester State University, Massachusetts and University of Sunderland, UK, where students of Edo University have the opportunity to spend between six months and two years for further academic training all in a quest to fulfilling her mandate in line with her vision.

who spoke to panafricreporters at the exhibition centre thank the management for the various innovations which have been brought into the institution, adding that they also appreciate the recruitment system which has brought the best hands to the university among many other innovations stressing that the university does not go on strike even though it is a public institution holding that the reason for this is not far-fetched: Both academic and non-academic staff are well motivated with an enhanced welfare package which is above what is obtainable in other state-owned institutions. Staff are supported for research programmes and they are re-trained periodically.
It is appropriate to say that EUI is a combination of innovation, creativity, commitment and excellence. A tour of the university will leave you with no doubt but wishing you studied there or in an environment that is as conducive as EUI. For this reason, kudos to the Edo state government for coming up with this laudable initiative at a time the Nigerian education system is reeling in its shadows. More importantly, the state governor, Mr. Godwin Obaseki for his unflinching support to the university and an applaud to the university community under the leadership of our result oriented VC, Prof. Emmanuel Aluyor for the trendsetting voyage of Edo University Iyamho for sustainable solutions in research and agriculture.
