DISTINGUISHED SENATOR GABRIEL SUSWAM PHD, CON BARES EXCELLENT EXPERIENCE IN SENATE COMMITTEES

The rallying point of Benue politics, His Excellency, Senator Gabriel Torwua Suswam, member of Senate committee on Judiciary bares his excellent experience as a man who has operated from the both sides of the coin, having served as an executive governor and a seasoned legislator with a background in law during the committee screening exercise for Mr President’s nominees, Hon. Justice J. T. Tsoho and Hon. Justice Benedict Bakwaph Kanyip.
Recall that the senate at its plenary sitting on Tuesday 29th October, 2019, considered Mr. President, Commander-In-Chief’s requests, for the confirmation of nominations of Hon. Justice J. T. Tsoho and Hon. Justice Benedict Bakwaph Kanyip for their appointments as the Hon. Chief Judge of the Federal High Court and the Hon. President of the National Industrial Court, respectively.
As a matter of senate standing rules and order, after consideration on the floor of the hallow chamber, these requests were referred to the Senate Committee on Judiciary, Human Rights and Legal matters, for further legislative action with a task to report the committee recommendation back to the entire house within one week.
The committee interviewed Tsoho and Kanyip and received explanation regarding their life, experience, qualifications, confidence and suitability to assume the positions.
The committee chairman called on the screened nominees to do all they could to ensure that the much needed reforms in the judicial sector were driven home.
There after, Distinguished Senator Gabriel Suswam joined his colleagues in the Senate Committee on SDGS as a member, the committee was briefed by the Honourable Minister of Works and Housing, His Excellency, Babatunde Fashola, SAN.
Top on the agenda was the briefing on the status of SDGS projects in the Ministry of Works and Housing.
The Chairman, Senate Committee on power proceeded to participate in a courtesy call on the Senate President, Senator Ahmed Ibrahim Lawan by the officials of Niger Delta Power Holding Company Limited (NDPHC).
Top management team of the Niger Delta Power Holding Company Limited (NDPHC) paid a courtesy visit on the President of the Senate, Senator Ahmed Ibrahim Lawan. The NDPHC team was led by the MD/CEO of NDPHC, Mr. Chinedu Ugbo.
Mr Ugbo briefed the Senate President on the activities of the company and achievements in power infrastructure development across the country.
He also sought the support of the Senate President and the entire National Assembly in gas supply to meet the gas requirements of NDPHC power plants in the country.
According to him, adequate gas supply to its power plants will not only boost sustainable power supply, but will also enhance economic activities in the country.
In his remarks, the Senate President stated that the National Assembly will continue to collaborate extensively with the Federal Government and relevant stakeholders in proffering working solutions to issues around power sector with the ultimate goal of ensuring growth in the sector.
He urged NDPHC to continue to collaborate with the Senate Committee on power which is made up of eminent Nigerians with vest knowledge of the power sector.
As Senator Gabriel Torwua Suswam continue to discharge his duties at the National Assembly, the honourable and productive people of Benue North-East Senatorial District have the great assurance of excellent representation and laudable legislative innovations to ventilate their voice and improve their living conditions.
