Chairman of the House Committee on Foreign Affairs, Hon.Yusuf Buba Yakub, has lauded the great strides made by the people of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam in turning a once import- dependent economy to an export-oriented one that has made the country one of the leading nations among the list of developing countries of the world. Hon. Buba made the above observation today in Abuja during a visit by a delegation of the Communist Party of Vietnam ( CPV) led by Nguyen Hai Ninh,a member of CPV’s Central Committee and Deputy Chief of the Party’s Central Committee Office in Vietnam. Earlier, while presenting the reason for the visit,Mr Ninh described Nigeria as a friend of Vietnam with which it has long-standing co-operation and relationship that had seen the growth in trade and entrepreneurship among the both countries. He said Nigeria’s huge population and central position in Africa and its affairs made it necessary for the leaders of his Party and country to seek better trade relations and further co-operation on already signed agreements between the both countries. The Party stalwart, who was accompanied by the Vietnamese Ambassador to Nigeria, Mr Pham Anh Tuan, used the opportunity to solicit the co-operation of the House of Representatives on the planned visit later this month of another delegation of Vietnamese leaders led by the country’s Deputy Prime Minister, Mr Voung Dinh Hue,to Nigeria. While promising to avail the Speaker of the House of Representatives of all the requests made by the delegation, Hon. Buba said Nigeria would be glad to co-operate with Vietnam on all areas of their mutual interests, especially, on how to turn its vast potential in agriculture from the level of subsistence that has been known for many years to full mechanisation, adding that our unique shared experiences as countries of interest to the world foisted on us the need to work together.
