The leading youth organisation in Northern Nigeria, The Arewa Youth Council (AYC) has commiserated with the Executive Governor of Sokoto State, His Excellency, Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, and the entire good people of Sokoto State, over the unfortunate Sokoto Central Market fire incident that destroyed over 60% of the over 16,000 shops in the market.
The president of the Council, Dogo Shagari in a statement on Wednesday, described the incident as tragic and a great loss to Sokoto State and the country in general.
Shagari promised to mobilize his organisation to support the State government’s effort in rebuilding the market to restore economic activities in that region.
In the same vein, the AYC president lauded the Executive Governor of Rivers State, His Excellency, Ezenwo Nyesom Wike on his solidarity visit to his Sokoto State counterpart, His Excellency, Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, over the tragic fire incident at the Sokoto central market.Shagari described Governor Wike as an indefatigable leader who has gone against all odds to foster unity and national cohesion in every sense of it.
According to the Youth President, Wike’s antecedents in extending a hand of fellowship to Nigerians, especially in times of need, irrespective of regional, ethnic, religious or political affiliation has continuously stood him out as an irrefragable nationalist and a visible crusader of everything good governance and national unity.

Dogo Shagari further reinstated the commitment of the AYC in partnering with progressive-minded leaders like Wike in moving the country forward.
According to the AYC President, the surest way to foster national and economic development of the country is to set aside every form of acrimony and develop interests which define Nigeria first before anything else. In the same development, Dogo Shagari described Governor Aminu Tambuwal as a pertinacious achiever who believes in the saying that “leadership must be absolutely good in order to be good at all”.
According to Shagari, Governor Tambuwal has left no stone unturned in ensuring that the good people of Sokoto State enjoy the dividends of good governance.
“It is true that great leadership attracts great fellowship. That is why we see that Wike has come to Sokoto to further buttress the giant leadership strides of his counterpart”, Shagari added.
Recall that Governor Nyesom Wike, during his visit to his Sokoto State counterpart, Aminu Tambuwal over the Sokoto central market fire incident, pledged the sum of 500 million naira towards supporting the victims of the fire incident and rebuilding the market.
During the visit, Governor Wike also paid a condolence visit to the Sultan of Sokoto, Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar in his palace, over the death of the Sultan’s younger brother, the late Commissioner for Home Affairs, Hon. Abdulkadir Jeli Abubakar.
