YUSUF BUBA YAKUB PLEDGES TO DONATE 100 PERCENT OF HIS MONTHLY SALARY THROUGHOUT THE PERIOD OF THE COVID 19 PANDEMIC TO COMBAT ANY EVENTUALITIES FROM THE DISEASE IN HIS CONSTITUENCY* …Sets Up the Yusuf Capt.Buba Coronavirus Trust Fund The Honourable Member representing Gombi/ Hong Federal Constituency and Chairman,House Committee on Foreign Affairs,Rt. Hon. Yusuf Buba Yakub, yesterday, Monday,March 30,2020, announced the donation of 100 Percent of his monthly salary to the fight against any incidents that may arise as a result of an eventual outbreak of the COVID 19 pandemic in his Constituency. This donation will cater for all issues relating to the disease,including campaigns against it,and will continue as long as the pandemic lasts. In a direct video broadcast sent to his Constituents,Monday,Rt.Hon. Buba,who said the exigencies of the times had made necessary his direct broadcast to them, following a message he had earlier sent over the weekend on the sad outbreak of the coronavirus in Nigeria,thanked them for their continuous support and messages of appreciation,which,he said, have continued to pour in since he visited and made available relief materials to communities, institutions and families that suffered losses in the last insurgency attacks in Garkida and Holma towns of his Constituency. While re- iterating the fact that no case of the COVID 19 disease has been detected in Adamawa State since the first case of the virus was announced in Nigeria in late February,the lawmaker called on the people of Gombi/ Hong Federal Constituency to remain vigilant and to observe all the necessary guidelines issued by the Government and other health authorities to stay safe.Rt. Hon. Buba again used the occasion to highlight the necessity of constant hand- washing,observing basic hygiene principles, social distancing as well as the use of alcohol- based hand sanitizers to stem the tides of transmission and infection by the virus. He urged the people to co- operate with the authorities and to remain at home where restriction orders on movements have been issued,while endeavouring to demonstrate love to vulnerable ones among them by evoking their traditional communal spirit of giving and sharing whatever they have with others. He also advised the Constituents not to treat anyone who presents with the symptoms of the COVID 19 ailment at home,but instead, report them to health authorities or the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control ( NCDC) through a set of numbers he obliged. In his words,the entrepreneur turned- politician said: “While I have continued to urge that,in spite of how things may be at the moment,we must comply with the directives of Government for our own benefit. As is in our character,we must help the vulnerable ones among us by sharing what we have with them. This is the best time to show others that we truly care. I, again,call on you to see the guidelines and regulations of Government as a clarion call to the necessary sacrifices we must make at this time to achieve victory over this evil virus. As hard as some parts of the guidelines may sound,it is absolutely important we cut off the social lifestyles and linkages that give rise to the transmission of this virus. God willing,this time will soon pass by and our life will be back again to us.” Continuing,he added: “My distinguished leaders, Constituents, ladies and gentlemen,I have since sending you my first address on the COVID 19 pandemic pondered on how best to prepare our people for any emergency situation in relation to the disease. To be prepared,they say,is to make preparations to win; and we must win in this fight against this new disease. To win, therefore,we must take proactive measures that must be aimed at clear information dissemination, emergency preparedness and direct solutions to cases that may arise from the outbreak of the disease or other related incidentals”. To hit the ground running in his programme for his Constituency,Rt. Hon. Buba also informed that he had set up a Committee, chaired by a long- standing political ally resident in the Constituency, to manage what he called the Yusuf Captain Buba Coronavirus Trust Fund; adding that members of the Committee had been directed to submit to him a proposal before the close of work yesterday,Monday,March 30,2020, on their immediate line of action. This,he said,was apart from the media announcements and jingles on the coronavirus outbreak which are already out for broadcast in the Constituency and across Adamawa State. Concluding,Rt. Hon. Yusuf Buba Yakub took the opportunity of the address to renew his commitment to the welfare, progress and the betterment of the people of Gombi/Hong Federal Constituency. In doing this,the legislator said he would reommit himself to the ideals of placing everything about his Constituency above every other consideration, as he had promised in his electioneering campaign messages of 2015 and 2019.; stressing that he would, however, not count any sacrifice too big to make as long as it is to the utmost good and progress of the people of his Constituency.
