Presidential hopeful, Prince Adewole Adebayo call on Federal Government to step up on their engagement with ASUU to end the persistent industrial action in the education sector while he appeals to Academic Staff Union of Universities to consider the plight of young Nigerians.

Adebayo describes the strike as a “reoccurring problem” in the educational sector , expressed displeasure over the epileptic academic calendar, noted that almost every Nigerian is affected as the chain is linked to every family.

Recall that the Academic Staff Union of Universities had earlier announced a “comprehensive and total strike”, noting that the Federal Government has failed to implement the Memorandum of Action signed in December 2020.

According to her  President, Prof. Emmanuel Osodeke, the warning strike, which takes effect immediately, would last for an initial period of four weeks.

The presidential hopeful, recalled how he lost three years in the university as a student in the 90s, adding that there is no longer integrity in the university system, causing disrespect for  certification  and denial of employment opportunities globally.

Adebayo, admitting that workers were right to demand for  their wages, said the union and Federal Government must reach a compromise as the future of young Nigerians is at stake.

He, therefore, called on ASUU, universities and the government to seek a permanent solution.

The legal practitioner also urged the Minister of Education, Adamu Adamu, his Labour and Employment counterpart, Chris Ngige and other stakeholders to ensure that the strike is not prolonged.

He, however, pledged to monitor the situation and talk to all parties.

“Education is the cornerstone of civilisation and our future depends on it,” he said.

“We need to work hard to see that there is industrial harmony and educational quality for our children
