The importance of developing a skill and committing to achieving tangible results through hard work have again been stressed as necessary conditions for becoming self-reliant in life and making more impact in society.

Member representing Gombi/Hong Federal Constituency and Chairman, Committee on Foreign Affairs,House of Representatives,Rt.Hon.( Dr.) Yusuf Buba Yakub, stressed the above today, Wednesday, in Yola,Adamawa State, when he paid a supervisory visit to skills acquisition trainees at the 23 Brigade Nigerian Army Officers’ Wives Association ( NAOWA) Entrepreneurship and Skills Acquisition Centre,Gibson Jalo Cantonment,Jimeta,Yola.

The lawmaker, who was led round the different sections of the Entrepreneurship Centre by the military instructors handling the programme, expressed satisfaction at the enormity of progress the trainees from his Constituency have made in the past few months since the commencement of the exercise.

While describing the skills that the student-trainees have imbibed so far as one that will not only offer them a new lease of life, but also provide them a means for life-long self-reliance,Buba said the trainees had in their instructors met commitment with competence.

He lauded the efforts of the vocational instructors and the cooperation of the military authorities of the 23 Brigade Nigerian Army, Gibson Jalo Cantonment, Jimeta, Yola, in the ongoing training programme and promised to incorporate permanently in his annual legislative agenda in the quest to ensure that no youth or woman is without a skill or two in Gombi/ Hong Federal Constituency.

In their response, the Chief Instructor of the partnership programme, who spoke for the group, thanked the lawmaker for his laudable commitment to human capital development in Adamawa State, as exemplified by the curriculum and the skills-trainee-and-equipment programmes that have been running at the Captain Buba Industrial Village,Faci,in the last seven years. He said,in addition to the current ongoing partnership with the military to train selected Constituents in choice skills, the lawmaker has, indeed, demonstrated to his Constituents and other Nigerians in the area that he has both their welfare and wellbeing at heart.

While commending the entrepreneurship trainees for their commitment to the programme, the Chief Instructor of the Centre added that the measure of discipline and hard work they have also displayed since the commencement of the programme have without saying contributed to the enormous progress the trainees have achieved in so short a time. While informing that, with the level of state-of-the-art equipment and facilities in the Entrepreneurship Centre and the high competence of its instructors, graduates of the Centre can compete favourably with their counterparts anywhere in the world. He also added that the gates of the Centre remained open to the lawmaker for continuous collaboration.

You may recall that the entrepreneurship development programme ,which commenced a few months ago for fifty(50) Constituents from Gombi/Hong Federal Constituency, is a collaborative effort between the Nigerian Army and the lawmaker representing the area in the House of Representatives. Rt. Hon. Buba, apart from providing the trainees at graduation with cash and starter-packs/equipment to launch out into private enterprise,is also providing the trainees with monthly allowance for transport and feeding through out the duration of the programme.
