The three series of “So That You May Know” tried to point at seeing the need to establish one’s eternal life on the earth before going to heaven. It is viewed very important to put this in another perspective for clearer understanding. After we become born again, heard Jesus and believed in Him, then, we begin to live in holiness as well as righteousness; we must aim at living in eternal life. Jesus said in John 3: 36 that those trusting in Him has eternal life in them. He also said in John 6: 54a that “Anyone who eats His flesh and drinks His Blood has eternal life.” These statements put “eternal life” in present tense. According to Holman Illustrated Bible Dictionary, these statements put “eternal life as experience in the present.”
This devotional subscribes to John 3: 36 and 6: 54a to conclude that Christians are to aim at living eternal life right from the world. Jesus Christ while praying in John 17: 3 said: “This is eternal life; that they may know you, the only true God…” This talks of having experience that transforms life. The eternal life gained, which now reflects in our transformed life on the earth should be used to transform other lives. There will be no point living a pious life, being careful not to be stained with sins for sake of going to enjoy eternal life in heaven when you ignore making people eat from the fruits of your eternal life. Christians on the earth should be seen extending the fruits of eternal life being live on the earth to helping people with love and good wills.
Beloved in Christ, do not think that this devotional kicks against the believe on eternal life as that to be lived in heaven in the future. It rather anchors its stand on using our gained eternal life to do good things to people we see and meet on daily basis. This knowledge is drawn from what Jesus Christ told the rich young man who came enquiring from Jesus on how to gain eternal life. Jesus told him to go, sell everything he has and give the proceeds to the poor, then comes to follow Jesus (Mark 10: 17 – 21). We have to know that if we practically give out our quality and quantity life to people around us on the earth, we will build more genuine eternal life for the future.
Holy Father and Almighty Jehovah, fill my mind with eternal life that transforms my world in the name of Jesus Christ.
