The series on extreme desperation of February 6 and 7 are channeled to discouraging every individual from living on desperation in this world. Today’s devotional aims at pointing out few obvious traits of a desperate person. One Thomas Martin while commenting on Psalm 42: 1-11 said that desperation generally “…involves a sense of hopelessness and despair coupled with very uncharacteristic behaviour.” Uncharacteristic behaviour here should be understood as unusual and unhealthy behaviour. A desperate person can be known for many unusual behaviours differently from others.
A desperate person fights for what she/he wants in a sadistic spirit. He/she can stake his/her life or ready to kill anyone opposing whatever that individual desires. A desperate person neither knows friends nor relatives when the mind is fixed on what is wanted. A story was told me about a young Nigerian too desperate for “good money” in Lagos in about 1991. The young man said he would not mind selling Nigeria as a country at an opportunity, then runs to abroad. Those who know this young man told me that he meant every word he uttered. In history, too desperate sons have staged coups pushing their fathers from being Head of State. The Bible has the story of Absalom who overthrew his father David. David had to go for self-exile. Daughters who are desperate for husband have pushed out their mothers to marry their biological fathers. Mothers do same to their daughters. The minds and consciences of desperate people are sired with hot iron. They are too dangerous for confrontations.
A nation or community dominated with desperate leaders is a finished country or community. The leaders abrogate every good thing to themselves to the detriment of the poor people. Desperate leaders are brutes, clueless in leadership and anti-developments. A desperate person cannot be predicted be such a religious or secular leader. This takes us to Jeremiah 17: 9 for what God says about a desperate person referred to in the Bible as a wicked person. The Bible says here: “The heart of man is desperately wicked. None can understand.” As a Christian, avoid any one discovered to be desperate in all things.
PRAYERS:
1. Pray asking God to touch the minds of all desperate people causing sorrow and pains in the world in the name of Jesus Christ.
2. Pray and ask God to remove desperate minded peoples from the Body of Christ through renewal of their minds in Jesus name.
