These series of Daily Hope Devotionals is on Household Betrayers. Betrayers are the most dangerous set of people in the world as they are responsible for coordinating evils and insecurities by giving information of somebody, something or the nations to outsiders who are enemies. A betrayer, according to Farlex Webs Dictionary is “one who reveals confidential information in return for money”. Also, “person who says one thing and does another”. ABC NEWS in a feature titled “History’s Most Infamous Betrayers” said that “…human history has been dotted with self-serving traitors and collaborators who have betrayed their peoples and nations.” A betrayer is one who relates intimately, loyally with outward show of faithfulness so as to get vital information on somebody, nations or about something for an enemy. There are millions of betrayers in the world. But for sake of space few will be pointed out in this introductory part of the devotional.
Literature world will ever refer to Marcus Brutus as an infamous betrayer who was used to oust Caesar from power by the Roman Republic in Shakespeare’s book titled “Julius Caesar. Marcus Brutus, a Roman Senator and very close friend of Julius Caesar joined in a plot to push Julius Caesar out of power. His action resulted to one of the most well-known cries of dismay from Julius Caesar “Et tu, Brute?” Julius Caesar was shocked when he discovered that Marcus Brutus was one of the main persons who worked for his down fall. He told Brutus Et tu, Brute? This means “Even you, Brutus? History recorded one Benedict Arnold as the most famous traitor (betrayer) in American history. He was a hero and brilliant Army General who fought the British army bravely at several tough battles at the start of American war of independence. At the end of the war, he felt embittered that the American Army did not recognized his military genius enough. He offered West Point to the British Army for 20,000 Pounds Sterling and started weakening the defense of the American Army overlooking the Hudson River in New York State.
In the Bible, Judas Iscariot stands as the famous betrayer who betrayed Jesus Christ the Son of God for a token amount of 30 pieces of Silver. He told the armed band that went to arrest Jesus Christ that whoever he kissed is the Jesus Christ, and they should take Him. It is said that in the ordinary, it was too difficult to identify Jesus among the Apostles. It will be interesting to know that the three persons in this devotional are household betrayers. Marcus Brutus was among the household of the inner circle friends of Julius Caesar. Benedict Arnold was of the household of the American Army while Judas Iscariot was of the household of Jesus’ Apostles. Of all betrayers, household betrayers are most dangerous and terrible. Millions of people have met their dooms in the hands of household betrayers.
PRAYER:
Pray, asking Jehovah God to grant you a discerning Spirit to know who could sell you out to your enemies in your house, office, business etc., in the name of Jesus Christ.
Pray and ask God to protect you from betrayers and traitors wherever you are in the name of Jesus Christ.
