In our yesterday’s devotional, we are told that even though God answers prayers, He will not be ordered around by human beings to be answering their prayers the ways they want. That would make God inferior to man He created. An illustration was given yesterday about one Robert G. Ingersoll; an atheist who, while deriding the power of God, asked Him to strike him dead within five minutes. God did not because God does not respond that way. Besides, people asking God to take away their lives when facing difficult moments, there are others with attitudes of ordering God to do things as they wanted. This is want the devotional is against. So many ladies and gents have told God, ‘give me my life partner or kill me.’ There was a girl in 1988 who told God “You must bring my husband this year.” There was another young man who prayed and told God to kill his biological father. After the prayers, he went about telling people his father had only three months to live. The father lived for more than five years after.
It is sad to note, that many deliverance and prophetic ministries specialize in the prayers and utterances of ordering God to do what they want. It beats the imagination of many hearing some servants of God asking God to kill the enemies of their fellowship members at a very particular date, time and the nature of the dead. The danger cause by this kind of pronouncement is destruction of the faith of people. Reason is that, these servants of God collect huge amount of money from the prayer seekers. When the given time elapsed and no positive answer came as God was ordered to do, the faith of the clients will be damaged. Today’s devotional is cautioning those ordering God to do things to have a change of attitude and those patronizing them to cease from such habit.
God usually answers prayers when He sees it best for our benefit. Our points of prayers should not be to change God’s will or to compel Him do what we want him do. We must be wiser to ask God doing things according to His will for us. One major thing many people order God to do is not to allow anyone related to them die, or themselves to die. But death is an appointed occurrence. The Bible said it is appointed unto man to die… (Heb. 9: 27). We must take this passage literally that every human being is programmed to die once one day. My beloved, let us all learn how to pray to God according to His will for us. It is only then that we will see His love, glory and blessings for us. Our major understanding of God should be that He does whatever He pleases to do (Psa. 135: 6). Period!
PRAYER:
HOLY AND RIGHTEOUS FATHER, I will never order you to do what I want again. Your thoughts towards me are thoughts of good. Always bring to me what pleases you in Jesus name.
