The wrangling between some candidates contesting for the leadership of the 10th National Assembly continues to filter in diverse views by some sections of the people , leading to media hypes with different cross opinions flying on social media and prints.
A concerned stakeholder from APC who did not want his name mentioned opined that the report making the rounds that the APC national working committee may throw the national assembly contest open to all is false, descriping it as fake and a script orchestrated by enemies of the party , who are bent on setting confussion within the party because they were not comfortable with the zoning arrangement .
He called on all members elect who are key players to jettison the report and remained focus on the choice of the party .
According to him, the story being reported by Vanguard news paper was a mere wishful thought by an unidentifiable source who didnt know the workings of the party and it’s progress , urging those behind it to desist.
APC had zoned the Senate president to the South-South and the speaker of the House of Representatives to North-West.
And announced Senator Godswill Akpabio, as its candidate for Senate president and Senator Jibrin Barau, as Deputy, while Hon. Tajudeen Abbas was picked as speaker and Benjamin Kalu as deputy respectively.
Vanguard reported that APC and the national working Committee may jettison the zoning arrangement and allow all interested members to contest in a free for all .
But the stakeholder described the news fake and undemocratic, saying, “what defines our nacent democracy is zoning which has favoured the president elect and the national working committee of the party, adding that zoning is constitutional must must be respected .
He added that those behind the fake news want to create discord among lawmakers, and averred that the party’s decision remains and will never be altered .
According to him, both parties involved in the contest are getting along with series of meetings with stakeholders ,as such the APC majority leader in the House of Representatives Hon. Alhassan Ado Doguwa stepped down for Tajudeen Abbas.
Also commenting, the leader of Northern Advocacy for peace and reconciliation, Mallam Garba Adamu said the forum is non partisan but sympathising with Abbas as the choice of the party and said Abbas remains fit for the job .
Stressing that the Group are happy with the on going negotiation between contestants and stakeholders ,saying it will yield fruitful results at the end.
He described Tajudeen as a peaceful man that will promote national interest and carry all the social cultural affiliations along and also harmonise the house with his load of experience spanning over a decade ,apart from closing ranks with members elect from different political parties in the house.
He added that the organisation had met with the G-7 aspirants and discussed further ways of resolutions .
Adding that nobody is bringing in confussion among members rather the report from various people through social media are sparking in confusion.
Another member elect who spoke anonymously said their meeting with task force 2023 members was fruitful ,saying that the leadership provided by the out going speaker, Femi Gbajabiamila is commendable and his assurance that Abbas going by his credentials will unite the members, if emerge as speaker stand Abbas out.
