Our discussion on wisdom yesterday told us three powerful things wisdom offers mankind. It said that wisdom is a principal thing (Prov. 4: 7), is profitable and for direction and it is a defense (Eccl. 7: 12; 10: 8 – 10). The second thing learnt about wisdom yesterday was that “the wisdom the Spirit of the LORD gives is the ultimate duplicate of God’s wisdom.” These two statements summarise the benefits of wisdom and inform our minds that there is need for us to receive this wisdom. We read in yesterday’s devotional how Jesus Christ applied the wisdom the Spirit of the LORD placed on Him to answer the Pharisees and the Sadducees in the Temple as well as how He wriggled Himself out from the question whether they should pay tax to Caesar or not.
The benefits of wisdom are in millions. If any Christian wants to be filled with grace of God he/she needs wisdom from the Spirit. This was seen on Jesus (Luke 2: 40). With application of wisdom, those who have it will rule and judge people without prejudice and not with injustice. Jesus applied this in the case of the woman alleged to be caught committing adultery (John 8: 10 – 11). King Solomon’s judgment over the issue of two women contending ownership of one child has been accepted as the most delicate case before any jurist till date. It thus credited King Solomon as the incredible wisest King ever lived. Wealth and riches never guaranteed us pleasant years of living but wisdom tells us that listening and obeying the word of God gives us blessing, prosperity and pleasant years (Job 36: 11).
In Proverbs 2: 6 alone we can access eight (8) benefits of wisdom. (1). It helps us gain understanding of the fear of the LORD. This is the most important to Christians. (2). It grants us access to speak with knowledge and understanding. (3). It grants us treasure of common sense and honest living. (4). It shields us from false living standard but enables us to walk with integrity. (5).It makes God guards our paths to be just and protect those who are faithful to Him. (6). Wisdom makes us understand what is right, just, fair and the right ways to go in life. (7). Once we acquire this give we have acquired the most principal thing in life. (8). All those who operate in wisdom know that there is no gain fighting over riches, wealth and position on the earth, as one will surely leave them one day. Brethren, do all things possible to get this wisdom from the Spirit of the LORD.
PRAYER:
FATHER LORD, LORD JESUS CHRIST, grant me wisdom to receive its benefits and use them to your glory and the benefits of the world at large. Amen.
