As the jostling tightened and the election of principal officers of the legislative chamber draws closer, the APC endorsed and members-elect most acceptable candidate for the speakership position of the 10th National Assembly, Hon Tajudeen Abbas has revealed that three aspirants have stepped down and declared their support for him, while he’s currently talking to three others to do the same.
Hon. Tajudeen Abbas made this known in Abuja while responding to questions from journalists at the APC national secretariat after a meeting with the party’s National Working Committee (NWC) in the company of over 250 members-elect of both the joint task and unity forum group comprising of APC, PDP, NNPP, LP, ADC, SDP and others
When asked how far he and the groups has gone in reaching out to other contestants, he said, “I can assure you we are doing the best we can. Just a week ago if you have observed three aspirants have come out in public and declared their support for us.
“As we are talking today, I’m engaging not less than three other contestants, and I am hopeful that they will join us.”
Reacting to what Nigerians should expect from the 10th Assembly if he’s elected come June 13th, Hon. Abbas said, “we are assuring that the gain recorded in the 9th assembly will not only be sustained but improve upon.
“We are coming out with a 16 point agenda to address each and every area that we feel Nigeria should have improved on in the legislative chamber.
He concluded by saying, “wait for that document to come out and you will see for yourself that Nigeria would move forward from June 13, 2023.
When asked if the NWC of the party may review its earlier zoning and consensus arrangement of the speakership position to him, he said, “to the best of our knowledge, the party is resolute on its earlier decision.
“We are not aware if there is any change in any decision concerning the candidature of my humble self and my colleagues in the Senate.” he said.
