Yesterday’s devotional gave simple descriptions of the word “holy” and “godliness” in respect of how Apostle Peter said Jesus’ followers are to live by holy conduct and godliness; if they are to escape the destruction of the world when time comes. Today’s devotional will be building up the words “holy conduct and godliness. Living in holy conduct and godliness is the only way for the world, especially Christians, can escape the destructions of the wicked. Holy Conduct is in living righteously, walking in the commandments and ordinances of God blamelessly. It means refusing to be involved in the all works of darkness of this world. Those living in holy conduct do not hate people. They hardly live covetously or join in fowl conversations. The key guide of action of these people is “will what I am about to say or do contradicts what God wants?”
As Christians, finding ourselves doing everything the worldly people do places us on pedestals of unholy conducts. Is only when we conduct ourselves in a manner worthy of the gospel of Christ that our conduct is holy (Phil. 1: 27). Holy conduct is to be found in our speech too. The Bible says our speech should always be with grace, as though seasoned with salt even while responding to other persons (Col. 4: 5 – 6). In yesterday’s devotional, we are told that holiness means separateness, therefore, holy conduct involves us not conforming to the former lusts which belong to the time we were not born again. Living in holy conduct enables us to keep our behaviour excellent among none Christians, so that their accusations on us will be proved wrong by others.
The passage of 2 Peter 3: 5 – 6, talked about godliness alongside with holy conduct we all needed to prevent us being destroyed with those worldly people committing all sorts of evils. Godliness points us to knowing how to do things in conformity with the laws and wishes of God. We are not godly by words but by exhibiting moral uprightness. It means to live reflecting the nature of the Kingdom of God in the course of everyday life. Anything done outside of what pleases God is ungodly. Over the years some weird conducts are been permitted in the world. Walking along the street naked is approved. Same sex marriage is allowed. Committing abortion has become ways of human rights. The world today is more interested in doing things God hates. Reason some preachers are saying the End of the World is fast approaching. But those who live in holy conduct and godliness will be spared.
PRAYER:
Pray, asking God to direct your mind, interest and passion to things that please Him and His Son Jesus Christ so as to behave in holy conduct and godliness in the name of Jesus.
