As discussed in yesterday’s devotional, positive growth in anything we involve ourselves is said to be majorly rooted on self-disciplines. Before other disciplines can be administered, whether in the home, business, or church, there first must be self-discipline. As pointed out, failure to apply self-discipline to our actions disqualifies us in so many things. Whether one is a Christian or not, people are more attracted to us by the positive identity we wear. Today’s devotional desires to reflect on benefit we can gain from living an organized life through self-discipline. Points raised involve secular and Christian views.
There is no doubt that a self-organized person has no problem with working diligently. The word diligent comes from diligence which means “the effort to do one’s part while keeping faith and reliance in God. We must be able to discipline ourselves doing thing and waiting on God that what we are doing will turn out well. When work by self-discipline and work diligently, the Bible says our hope will be fully realized (Heb. 6: 11). The Bible said that laziness results to poverty but a diligent hand brings wealth (Prov. 10: 4). If one is self-disciplined and work diligently, God rewards the person with prosperities (Prov. 21: 5).
Secularly, self-discipline has many benefits. For sake of space, four benefits will be pulled out of a write up of one Remez Sasson, with my emphasis thus: (1). “It enables you to persevere with your decisions and plans until you accomplish them.” Perseverance means not giving up. Those who easily give up never get to a point of success in life. (2). “In other to reach your goal, a good measure of discipline is most useful.” Our achievement is not measured by what we attempted and dumped. Our goal in life has to be pursued despite difficulties and temptations trying to stop us from reaching the accomplishment. (3). “It is a power that helps you stay motivated.” A motivated person stays on his/her goal with passion that nothing distracts him/her from the plans till fulfillment is assured. (4). “If you wish to have resolution, persistence, single mindedness and staying power, you need to develop this skill.” Envisioning projects or businesses has never been a problem to human beings. What makes people fall below making things in life is failure to persevere with single mindedness till things got done.
PRAYER:
BLESSED FATHER, train my mind and heart to acquire self-discipline in other to stay on doing things; especially in this world of uncertainties, in the name of Jesus.
