The knowledge about God which is Hebrew’s word for Elohim; can never be exhausted, particularly about His being, His works of wonders as well as His names. Some people members of Christ’s followers have told the world that God’s only accepted name is JEHOVAH. The name JEHOVAH, if stand alone, is said to mean “! Am” or “He Is” as God announced it to Moses (Exodus 3: 13). The name JEHOVAH is so sacred to the Hebrew people that they never pronounced it out loud. The Hebrew people do not pronounce JEHOVAH in order not to violate Leviticus 24: 16 which said whoever blasphemes the name of the LORD shall be put to death. As it stands today, we have hundreds of names for our Almighty God. These names are given in accordance with peoples’ encounters with God, what He did or what He said. Thus we have God’s names as “Jehovah El Shaddai”; “Jehovah Jireh”; “Jehovah Nissi” to mention but few. Among these numerous names of God Almighty, today’s devotional is focusing on EL KAHADDOSH, shortened to “KADOSH” also.
The name El Hakkadosh means “The Holy One”. This name came about when God sent Prophet Isaiah to the Israelites, telling them how He created them like beautiful vines, meaning created them and made them righteously good on the inside. Regrettably, the Israelites turned against God and began to practice evils. God said of Himself that “…and God who is holy shall be sanctified in righteousness” (Isaiah 5: 16); showing himself as El Hakkadosh. He reveals himself to Israel as completely upright or righteous God. He walks a straight path. His exalted moral character sets him apart from the gods of the surrounding nations. In addressing God an “El Hakkadosh or Kadosh, we mean He is “one of a kind, utterly unique, set apart, and holy.” Isaiah uses this name at least 30 times throughout his book. Knowing God as “El Hakkadosh” we should understand Him as a Being who has no equal in all things.
A deeper look at some of the phrases in this devotional will enable us understand this name far better. If God is known as “One of a Kind” it implies that in creation, use of wisdom, in showing great love and care, doing works of wonder etc., there is none like Him. God as “utterly unique” tells us that God is one and there is no other God beside Him (Isa. 46: 9). God alone has the utmost power to redeem people and grant grace to all mankind. God’s essence and character are so unique making Him fundamentally different from all other beings. He has none to be comparable with Him (Jer. 10: 6 – 7). There is no one that belongs to the class of God. In attributes He alone is a Trinity. No one else has the attribute of “self-sufficient in existence of eternal being like God. The last to see here is that, God is alone as an “Everlasting King. This is the meaning of Him being “set apart” or separated.” Other Kings came and gone, those kings still living will surely pass away, but our God is an Everlasting King who lives forever. The beloved, try know God more as El Hakkadosh of “Kadosh.”
PRAYER:
HOLY SPIRT of JEHOVAH EL HAKKADOSH, let me know Him more in His utterly uniqueness, one of a kind and being “set apart.”
