This is of course the third day we are looking into the topic “Christian and Open Mind.” Those who have been following might have had understanding of what it is to be an open minded person. In between the lines we have harped on what is open mindedness and what is closed-mindedness. We might have as well touched importance of open mind to Christian. We were told from day one that “open mind” is virtue. This phrase means that open mindedness endows those walking in it with quality of moral excellence. The more we open our minds to receiving knowledge and embracing experiences, the more we mature in wisdom which guides us through good behaviour. Today’s devotional will like to tell us some benefits of open mindedness. From a brainy quote blog, one Martha Stewart says that: “Without an open minded mind, you can never be a great success.” Another person in same blog by name Tony Hadley says: “Be open-minded so you can see the other side of the coin.” These two quotes open us to benefits of open-mindedness. Below are few additions: –
Open mind gives insights:
Insight means ability to see in the mind far beyond the things presented to the physical eyes. People with open mind gets insight from those they interact with. Open mind enable one acquires insights (visions), that Challenges existing beliefs and considering new ideas. Those refusing to develop their visions easily perish in whatever they do (Prov. 29: 18).
Open mind helps one achieve personal growth:
Keeping an open mind can help you grow as a person. You learn new things about the world and the people around you. Prophet Daniel was mentally rated above his mates and teachers not merely because God favoured him. He gave himself to studying of books to achieve personal growth. He said he “understood by books” and mentally stumbled on the time set for his people (Daniel 9: 2). Anyone who reads different kinds of books to gain knowledge must be an open minded person.
Open mind makes one becomes mentally strong:
Staying open to new ideas and experiences can help you become a stronger, more vibrant person. Your experiences and knowledge continue to build on one another. Reading through Ecclesiastes 1: 16 – 17 projects why The Preacher acquired such a great mental capacity. He applied his mind to getting understanding; meaning contacted various sources that can make him wiser than others. This made him to know how to handle different problems of life. The beloved, be sensitive in spirit, but try as much as possible to open your mind to people opinions, new knowledge, and not condemning what you are yet to know.
PRAYER:
Pray and ask God to grant you clean heart that will not block your receiving peoples’ ideas as this will make you ignorant of facts. Ask God to give your mind, the right Spirit who will be directing your mind correctly every time.
