As studied yesterday, every man and woman believes in truth, speaks truth and lives in truth according to individual perceptions. With the multifaceted belief angles on truth, we have Jesus’ taught truth known as “the truth that sets one free.” Other truths, called it worldly truth hardly sets people free. Today’s devotional will enlarge some of Jesus’ taught on the truth that sets one free. First to look into is freedom from sins. The world’s view on sin settles on truth that says sin is above human capacity; therefore, one ought not to struggle to become righteous. But those Christians who genuinely repented know that receiving the word of God gave them truth that made them dropped many sinful attitudes. We have drug addicts, cultists, murderers, seasoned criminals etc., who turned Christians and got set free from their old ways of living. This is against many who were told that joining certain society or group will give them freedom from the world laws and controls. Soon after they joined the society, they would discover that they got everything wrong. The truth preached to them never set them free.
The word of God is the sanctifying truth (John 17: 17) while Jesus Christ said He is the Living Truth (John 14: 6). If one studies the word of God and act on the words, he/she is freed from many lifestyles which give depression, emotional disorders, frustrations, spiritual derailments and financial bankruptcy. A habitual drunk sees self being freed from enslavement to alcohol after accepting the word of God which Jesus Christ brought into the world. So it is to habitual smokers, adulterers, fornicators and practitioners of other vices told to be ways of living happily in the world. Reason Jesus said that whoever believes in His word and received it as truth will be set free.
Yesterday’s devotional said Theological/Philosophical definition of truth is “Ultimate ground of reality.” This means that truth ought not result into anything detestable, disgusting, disappointing, causing tears, resulting to regrets etc. These days, there are supposed truth been taught that single parenting brings joy. But those deep in it are heard lamenting. We are told that it is good to marry same sex. Those involved in it are regretting silently, especially when it is discovered that same sex marriage does not give one biological children. We are told that going for artificial bums, breasts, plastic or surgical beauty etc., does not go with harms. Many did it and lived to regret much latter. In all these, the much preached truth landed people in woes than rejoicing. But the truth the Bible gives is still setting people free from evil practices and vices enabling them to live in virtuous lifestyles.
PRAYER:
HOLY FATHER, save me from all forms of world truths that will cause me regret been born into this world in time to come in the name of Jesus. May the Holy Spirit lead me to the truth; that will give me eternal life in the name of Jesus Christ.
