To address the myriad of environmental challenges bedeviling Katsina State, Governor Dikko Umaru Radda, yesterday stressed the need for collaboration with the Federal Ministry of Environment.
Radda emphasized this when he paid a courtesy call on the Permanent Secretary, Federal Ministry of Environment, Alh. Ibrahim Yusufu, in Abuja on monday.
According to him, environmental conservation is one of the areas the international community is paying great attention to, owing to the global threats of climate change, erosion and desertification.
“And some of these challenges are seriously affecting Katsina State,” he said.
Governor Dikko Radda, added that as this falls within the jurisdiction of the Permanent Secretary, who is an indigene of Katsina, the visit is to seek for his support towards addressing environmental challenges in the State.
“We would also be glad if your Ministry constantly provides us with necessary information on environmental interventions of the federal government, that we can tap from,” he said.
Responding, Alh. Yusufu, thanked the Governor for finding time to visit their Ministry, and assured him of the Ministry’s commitment to work with the Katsina State Government.
“I have used my position to assist Katsina State enjoy some federal government interventions, in the past. For instance, I fast-tracked the N6.2 billion Ruga Scheme to be executed in the State, as well as helping our dear State to get waivers for a Federal Medical Centre and Federal University Dutsinma,” he said.
The federal Permanent Secretary expressed optimism that with synergy between their Environment Ministry and the administration of Governor Dikko Radda, a lot could be achieved for the State, and its citizens.
