The Environment and safety management institute (ESMI) Nigeria has announced it’s third National Stakeholders seminar to hold in Abuja on the 31 of August, 2023. The event is one of the engagements the Institute has with stakeholders in the Environmental and safety Management sector.
The engagements are unique platforms created by ESMI to bring stakeholders in the environmental and safety management sector including those in the civil society, government administration, military and paramilitary, international agencies among others, to brainstorm on practical ways of solving trending issues that concern human safety and the safety of the environment. So far, the institute has held two international conferences, six regional stakeholders’ discussions and two national stakeholders’ seminars.
Prominent Nigerian leaders have addressed these discussions while in office including state governors like Tanko Al-Makura (Nasarawa State), Inuwa Yahaya (Gombe State), Samuel Ortom (Benue State), Willie Obiano (Anambra State), Rotimi Akeredolu (Ondo State), Boss Mustapha (as SGF) among others.
This year’s theme, Building National Cohesion through Environmental Safety is aimed at discussing how environment and safety management can be taken to the grass root to address issues of flooding, erosion control, desertification and climate change. A statement by the national President of the Institute Martin Iorsamber says the executive Governor of Nasarawa State Engr. Abdullahi Sule will deliver the keynote address at the event while Dr James Vandefan, a security expert and Environmental consultant will lead the discussion.
Over the years, government and other relevant stakeholders have been able to address only a few of these concerns but the challenges are still staring us in the face and blocking our pathway for economic development. The consequences of these have been the high level of poverty and insecurities in our society. These have affected both women and children, rendering some families even homeless while the future is evidently precarious.
The event shall be declared open by the Honourable Speaker of the House of Representatives Dr Tajudeen Abbas while the Permanent Secretary, Federal Ministry of Environment, the Chief of Air Staff and some principal officers of the National Assembly shall be among Special Guests of Honour.
