Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide has called on Ndigbo to use the Igbo Day celebration to look inward and advance solutions to the myraids of problems facing the Igbo race.
A press statement by the Secretary-General Mazi Okechukwu Isiguzoro, who also said that the event would also be used to give honor past and present Igbo heroes and heroines, said the event represents the unity and cooperation among Ndigbo.
According to him, Ngbo had faced challenges in the past and has challenges to face in the future, nothing that the event would provide the opportunity to addressing these challenges.
The statement reads, “The 2023 Igbo Day celebration will be held in Port Harcourt ,Rivers State, Nigeria on September 29th 2023. The annual event is organized by the apex Igbo socio-cultural organization, Ohanaeze Ndigbo, in remembrance of our fallen heroes, a celebration of rich cultural inheritance, the revival of the Igbo language and bringing solutions to myriads of problems facing Ndigbo.
“The decision to hold this year’s event in Rivers State is based on equity and fairness since it is the only State that is yet to host the annual event among the 7 Ohanaeze states of Abia, Anambra, Delta (Anioma), Ebonyi, Enugu, Imo and Rivers (Igbo speaking). This is important as Rivers, in line with the provision in the Ohanaeze constitution on rotation of offices is the State to produce the next Ohanaeze President General in 2025.
“The theme for the 2023 Igbo Day Celebration is “ONYE AGHALA NWANNE YA,” which means “Always Be Our Brothers Keeper.” The theme was chosen to reflect the importance of unity and cooperation among Igbo people.
“The 2023 Igbo Day celebration will feature a variety of events, including prayers in all churches, youth and women programs, lectures, and a grand finale in Port Harcourt on September 29th 2023 with a Special Traditional Honour to our heroes, past and present. The list of honorees is to be unveiled in a few days time by the Organizing Committees headed by Prof Obasi Igwe, erudite retired professor of Political Science
“The event is expected to draw thousands of Igbo people from all over the world. The 2023 Igbo Day celebration is a significant event for the Igbo people. It is an opportunity to come together and celebrate our culture, heritage, and language. It is also an opportunity to discuss the challenges facing our people and find solutions to those challenges.
“The 2023 Igbo Day celebration is a reminder that the Igbo people are a strong and resilient people. We have faced many challenges in the past, but we have always come together and overcome them. We will continue to face challenges in the future, but we will always come together and find solutions.
“The 2023 Igbo Day Celebration is a celebration of our strength and resilience. It is a reminder that we are a people who can overcome anything”, he said.
