In the devotional yesterday we were told that even though Williams Wilberforce was said to have aided the abolishment of slave trades since 1948AD, slave trades are still invoking in this present modern world. All over the globe, people are protesting or rioting over hardship, hunger, over taxation and inhuman treatments of the leading classes over the led classes. More people are being treated as slaves in sophisticated styles these days. Those under their human traffickers witness the dehumanizing treatment like those in the ancient days before Christ was born. Today’s devotional is going to answer the question if what happened to the Israelites in Egypt can still happen today. Christians are being jeered at by non-Christians saying their God is no longer alive to free people from slavery. This too is not true.
Observations show that many world leaders have become slave masters and mistresses. The ruling classes have placed heavier “yokes” upon those they rule over. Political dynasty is evoking. Sponsoring dealers in human parts is allegedly on-going in some parts of the world. Young girls from the poorest families are being forcefully married out, at times at no cost. All less privileged people are forced to fend for themselves. Those crying out are hunted, arrested, locked up and the not too lucky ones amongst the prisoners died unpublished. As a matter of fact, God’s eyes are seeing horrible things than what meet our eyes as human beings. Today’s devotional comes with consolations to all readers. The God who promised that he will be “walking among the Israelites and be their God (Lev. 26: 12)”; is still amongst the people of the world.
This devotional believes that the needed thing for God’s children to do is to humble themselves and repent of their sins of turning away from God, cry to Him for intervention in right ways (2 Chro. 7: 14). Let us call on God to come and walk among us. He said: “I will walk among you and be your God and you shall be my people (Lev. 26: 12)”. It is when He walks among us that He will “Break the bars of our yokes and make us walk erect” (New American Standard Bible). When God comes to attend to our problems, He fights our battles for us (Exod. 14: 13). God is waiting for us Christians to call on Him the ways He will come to walk in our midst and protect us against our enemies (Deut. 23: 14). The word of God which says “I will be a father to you and you will be my sons and daughters (2 Cor. 6; 16 NIV) has to be believed upon. As our Father, He will definitely defend us and free us from slavery (breaking the bands of our yokes).
PRAYER:
ALMIGHTY FATHER, I am glad to hear that you still walk within those who call upon your name trusting that you are their Father. I believe you are my Father truly. Free me and fellow humans from the present world’s slave masters in Jesus name.
