During our sojourns on earth we passed through many things as life progresses. Journey through life has never been straight and smooth. There could be a time of joyous movements, or time for crisis, time for sicknesses, time for hardship, financial lacks and so on. While moving along in life they can be times one will be tempted to believe God is not in the business again. Naturally, God allowed many things to happen to us so as to learn lessons which could enable us matured or be developed into great personality. Today’s devotional is using Abraham’s movements through three places with wonderful names in term of meaning after God called him out of his home town. The intent of the devotional is to direct the readers’ minds to seeing that sometimes, God moved us into places to learn their great ways of living.
Abraham, after responded to the call of God was moved to places. In all the places he raised altars for the LORD. Out of many places, two will be taken to explain their name and meanings; and literally apply the names to what one stand to learn in the devotional. We all know that there are powers in names. When after Abraham was called out of his biological natives, the first place he entered was Shechem. The meaning of Shechem is “shoulder”. This signifies strength. In human body the shoulder is the most deposit of strength. God would allow Abraham to go and learn strength of the Canaanites’ the original citizen of Shechem. We can agree that God’s strength is in Shechem. Canaan is not just a place of milk and honey but a place of strength. In Shechem Abraham was moved to a place called Moreh (Gen. 12: 6). Moreh means “Teacher” or “Teaching”. This has something to do with knowledge.
Perhaps, Abraham in literal term was moved into a place to acquire more Spiritual knowledge. As we all know, genuine knowledge comes from God, Jesus Christ and the Holy Spirit. As Christians, we must seek knowledge from God to know why He allowed us settle in some places. When knowledge of where you are is known, the secret of success of that place will be known to us. This devotional is with the opinion that we need not reject where ever God enable us to go. In faith and hope, we are to settle in places God permits us. His grace will definitely make us good. When Jacob found himself in a desolate place he did not know that God was there till he saw God in dream. He would say he never know that God was there. The beloved, be at peace, the place where you are now is a place God designed for your destiny to change. Expect it soon!
PRAYER:
Pray and ask God to grant you comfort of mind when He planned you to wander about till you found a place He reserves for you.
