Doctrine of condemnation is as old as humanity. Every human being is a judge over all other persons around him/her. Irony of life is that many people see themselves more righteous than others. There has never been that a particular person has not condemned an individual in his/her life time. A criminal condemned fellow criminal who is caught in action. A drunk easily accuses another drunkard of talking in drunkenness. Politician who rigged accuses another with crime of rigging elections. Life is actually full of horse-trading kind of blames. In the days of Jesus Christ, a woman was brought to Him allegedly caught red handed committing adultery. Jesus’ view was sought to know what should be done to the woman.
Apostle John noted that those who brought the alleged adulterous woman wanted to trap Jesus though. Christian preachers have used this passage at various angle of the gospel. It has been used to console sinners ending by the saying of Jesus Christ as “Go and sin no more.” Others used it to comfort people who have been falsely accused of wrong doing. Many others have used the story to point at human legalism orchestrated against innocent people. This devotional goes with the later. We are living in the world where every human is quick to judge and condemn others even of what he/she is doing. This takes us to the hidden facts surrounding this alleged adulterous woman.
The men who brought the woman were Jewish people vested with the God’s laws given to Moses that said anyone caught in adultery or fornication should be stoned to death. What will make the stoning effective is two or three witnesses testifying against the accused person (Deut. 17: 6). These people came ready with the witnesses. But they failed to produce the man who committed the adultery with the woman. The law said the two are to be stoned to death (Lev. 20: 10). Jesus possibly understands this. He would ask for anyone who never sinned to cast the stone first at the woman. All were found guilty of sin at least. He told the woman: “Neither do I condemn you.” The beloved, why killing yourself for mere allegation against you by people, knowing very well you never did what you are been accused of? Jesus might not have condemned you in the first place!
PRAYER:
Pray asking God to always give you positive mind to take accusations of people upon you calmly till the truth will be uncovered.
