Yesterday’s devotional reflected on a tongue of whose heart is always overflowing in joy. The belief of the devotional was built on the fact that for a heart to overflow in good matter, the heart ought to be that which build on things positively. We can understand this more when the first passage above is read from English Standard Version. It says: “My heart overflows with a pleasing theme…” If we explain the word ‘theme’ in poetic or artistic subject it means an artistic representation. The heart has to create a beautiful representation before considering it “a good matter.” Whatever our heart is composing as touching things happening to us should be viewed from angle of positive analysis. For us Christians, we have to balance God’s goodness with bad things happening to us before concluding it as unfortunate matter.
The hidden fact of life is that each day, God’s goodness for us is higher than the so called bad ones. Therefore, we must be guided in our hearts to ensure we use our tongues to produce the right words which will exalt His Holy name. We all know that King David suffered greatly in the hands of King Saul. Even when King David fought wars with Israeli enemies, he suffered many defeats. How then could King David composed a hymn that says: “I will exalt you, my God the King. I will praise your name for ever and ever. Every day I will praise you and exalt your name for ever and ever” (Psa. 145: 1 – 2 NIV). Year in and year out, the world is losing focus of good governance and building up personal empires which are politically and economically injurious to the common people. This has made many speaking woes with their tongues. This ought not be heard from Christians
As people who know and trust their God, we Christians should always weigh our emotional and social hardships and train our tongues so as to produce good words, a thing King David had considered “a good matter.” If any living Christian should be positive in assessment of events which came his/her ways from January into December, sequences of “good matters” will overshadow the unfortunate incidences no matter the calculations. It will be surprising to discover the numbers of time God showed us love and mercy for the eleven months before December. We will discover in amazement how many times God delivered us from dangers within same period of the year. Hear King David here: Praise the LORD, all ye nations; praise Him all ye people. For His merciful kindness is great toward us: and the truth of the LORD endures forever. Praise ye the LORD” (Psa. 117: 1 – 2 KJV). This is a perfect reflection of a heart overflowing in joy over the LORD
PRAYER:
HOLY SPIRT, build my heart up to become a perfect place of overflowing in joy so that my tongue become a ready writer on praises unto the LORD in the name of Jesus Christ.
