Like the Bible passage that says “all have sinned and come short of the glory of God” in the book of Rom. 3: 23; no human on earth can say “I am free from seeing my wasted years in front of my eyes from time to time. One of the most discouraging things in life is seeing what you have done that wasted your finance, your successful venture as well as one’s valuable gifts or talents. Brooding over wasted years kills zeal, determination, visions and capacity to confront failures so as to be established in life.
Experience has shown that many people occupy their minds with where they failed in the month of January every year than any other months of the year. All the wasted resources, products, wealths and others will come at once into the heart to cause discouragement. Today’s devotional is set to tell us not to hopelessly remain where we have fallen but to get up and head for what will announce our destiny this year. The lead text of today’s devotional asks us, as I put it in my personal words: “to rejoice in the LORD when it seems our businesses no longer blossom, our farms failed yielding good harvest, our labour failed to be fruitful or when we see ourselves being cut off from God’s provision and protections.” The Prophet concluded that at the end of it all God will make us walk on His high hills.
The portion of the scripture used in this devotional is subtitled as “A Hymn of Faith.” As one who believes in God and His Son Jesus Christ, remove your minds from your wasted years. Put your trust in God that He will surely plant your feet on your high hills, these are your God’s purposed elevated positions in the world. In time of thinking over wasted years, the only good action to take is waiting on God for the change that is sure to come. Job once said “I will wait until my change comes” (Job 14: 14). Apostle James admonished his hearers to be patience and wait until the coming of the LORD just like the ways farmers wait for the time their precious fruit in their farms will show forth (James 5: 7 – 8).
I agree that the passage of James 5: 7 – 8 builds on the second coming of Jesus. However, I believe being patient and waiting on God’s divine intervention will enable us deal with the memory of the wasted years. The LORD who promised to always come for our help in time of trouble if we call upon Him will surely come to us this year. Apostle Peter would tell his hearers never to think that God can slack in His promise (2 Peter 3: 9). Is possible your expectations for God promises seemed never showed up in the past years. However, believe that this year God will visit your wasted years and cause things to blossom again.
Few Prayer points:
1. Father, give me a heart of patience this year so that I will not hastefully waste my blessings.
2. I believe in your words spoken to Prophet Habakkuk, that you will surely make me stand at my high hills. I beg you Father, to let the evidence show this year in Jesus name.
3. Ask God to refund back to you all that enemies have milked out of your life over the years in the name of Jesus Christ.
Today’s Confessional statement:
I will locate my high hills of life this year. God will reward me with abundant blessings from all the labours of my hands this year.
