The first part of this devotional was in February 7. Then, we were told that quenching the Holy Spirit is more in “putting the presence and gifts of the Holy Spirit out of our Christians lives gradually. Yes, we Christians must know that, the presence of the Holy Spirit in us is in “Spiritual Fire” form. The moment we refuse to keep the fire burning we are putting Him out of us. Allowing ourselves not to put the gifts of the Holy Spirit in us into proper use amounts to quenching the Holy Spirit. Pastor Oswald Chambers says we quench the Holy Spirit when we refuse to hear his gentle voice telling us what to do. When we do this, His presence in us will be reducing.
Many these days wonder why we hear and talk about so much powers in churches but reap few of the powers. Others question why evil is on the increase given millions of millions of churches in the world. To me, the answer lies, amongst others, with extinguishing the fire of the Holy Spirit by church members. Fact about the move of the Holy Spirit is that the more we allow Him in us, the more He flows in us. When we ignore His gifts in us or shun His instructions in us, we become docile and shallow in Him. Therefore, His manifestation in us becomes absent. Again, *refusing to go where we are directed of the Holy Spirit to go for missionary work, but choose another place for ourselves quenches Him*. If one is directed to go to a rural area and the person moves into urban area, the Holy Spirit will not follow.
In another development, we see that personal behaviours and attitudes of Christians have grossly put out the Holy Spirit in them. We will see these behaviours and the attitudes in part three of this devotional. In today’s world, people seem to be dictating for the Holy Spirit what they like doing and how they prefer doing it. The Apostles in the New Testament all worked within the instructions of the Holy Spirit. This accounted for successes and exploits which trailed the paths of their works. For instance, Philip. He allowed the Holy Spirit takes him to anywhere (Acts 8: 26 – 29, 39). Like Philip, we must have to be listening and yielding ourselves to the control of the Holy Spirit so as never to quench Him out of our lives. The present generation needs the powers and moves of the Holy Spirit seriously.
