The Parable of the tares and the wheats is told by Jesus Christ. As heard from the last discussion, parable is simple story used to illustrate a moral or spiritual lessons or principles. Parable illustrates one or more instructive lessons or principles. This is why parable provides different way for interpretations like proverbs. The Parable of the tares and the wheats is no exception.Besides the illustrating the Kingdom of God principles, we can expand “While Men Slept” to cover other areas of social, political, moral and religious spheres. In this devotional, we will try to talk about the tares in every strata of the society. We had mentioned earlier that the similarities between the tares and the wheats are so close that differentiating them at early growth proves very difficult.
In the society and the religious organizations as well as in the politics, the tares are the people within the same clime. From inception all behave alike that trying to know the fake ones proves difficult. Satan passes through a few people in the same group to corrupt them by injecting wrong ideology, philosophies and contaminated doctrines into their hearts to destroy the original norms of the groups. In the churches, the tares are those brethren who received same Biblical teaching, doctrinal lessons as well as baptized with same baptism. But they are agents of distortions. Same goes with other religious bodies, the political parties, the family groups and others.
The Parable of the tares and the wheats looks more on the owner of the farm and the servants who slept a long sleep. The problem is not on the enemy who went to sow the tares. The problem emanates from the owner of the farm and the servants who went and slept leaving the farm unattended to. Similarly, the problems in our world of today are not to be heaped upon the devils and Satan their master. The blame is on those saddled with the responsibilities to see that right things are carried out. Rather than keeping themselves awake they slept over every evil ushered into the world.Every leader in any society must see self as “watchperson” over those they lead. Where they fail to have firm control of evil infiltrations, they have slept off.
The senior Servants of God in churches, the Senior Servants overseeing the affairs of other religious bodies as well as the top political leaders are to see themselves as “Watchmen and Women” in this world. Christian leaders are to see themselves like Prophet Ezekiel. According to one Susan Galaambush “Ezekiel was commissioned as Watchman over a city already destroyed” (Ezek. 3: 16 – 21). In this generation, reality has dawned on everyone that the world is engulfed with dangerous fundamental problems. The problems started very long time ago. Like Prophet Ezekiel, we Christians are to see ourselves as “Watchmen and Women” privileged to warn the people now. When we warn them they will turn back to the good roads. This devotional drops this warning as an assignment. Let us all get on board now to do the warning for the world’s salvation and our own salvation; failure to warn the world brings destruction (Ezek. 33: 1 – 5).
PRAYERS:
1. Pray, asking God to raise men and women with “Watchman” anointing for the world in Jesus name.
2. Ask God to use His Might and bring up bold spiritually minded people to correct the evils in our society in Jesus name.
3. Ask God to enable you know what He has made you a “Watchman” for, so that you are not destroyed on the last day.
