When you think of the best of your own earthly father, is likely you think of him with respect or reverence; that’s how God wants to be to you. Maybe whenever you think of your father, you feel a lot of pain because he was not there for you when you needed him most. Your pain proves that you know how a father should be; it proves that you long for a father who does not disappoint you. The Lord God wants to be such a Father to you. But beware! God is not automatically the Father to everyone. He is the Father of those who believe in Jesus. (John 1: 12) “To all who did receive Him, who believe in His name, He gave the right to become children of God.”
When we become adopted children of God, the Spirit of God enters into our lives and we enter into a relationship with God by which we call Him, “OUR DADDY.” “How great is the love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called Children of God.” And that is what we are! We are children of God in Christ; we have the right to call God our father. What a blessed comfort for that privilege!!
By the virtue of being our Father, we have new identity in Christ. The Lord’s Prayer deals with our origin, how we should relate with our maker, and the importance of knowing Him intimately.
In our identity, we recognize that we have a responsibility to God. “A son honors his father, where is my honor? And if I am a master, where is my fear? This is what the Lord of hosts says to you.” Our relationship with our heavenly father requires that we love the Lord our God with all our heart, soul and our mind. Love your neighbor as yourself.
There are privileges to enjoy even as we recognize God as our father. John 8: 35 – 36, “Now a slave has no permanent place in the family, but a son belongs to it forever. So if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed.” We have freedom of access of belonging. That means that we have the freedom to go into the presence of God at any time and speak to Him about anything in our hearts. Like a child is accepted simply because he is a bonafide member of the family, so also we are accepted in Christ to become children of God.
PRAYER POINT:
The Lord God wants to be a father to us, but God is not automatically the father to every one!! You need to receive Christ as your Lord and savior in order to quality you to call God, “my Daddy “. Do that now, tomorrow might be too late.
CONFESSION:
By the reason of my new identity in Christ, I have a responsibility to honor God with my life. I need your grace O God!!
