In the Jesus’ taught prayer to His Disciples, the phrase “HALLOWED BE THY NAME” seems to be less understood by some Christians. It looks like many of us care little to give this phrase deep spiritual thought. This phrase is of great importance. The word HALLOWED simply means “Your name be sanctified”. It means “Your name is highly sacred above other names”. By pronouncing God’s name HALLOWED, we are declaring that His name is honoured by us and will be honoured in the whole course and tenure of our lives. We are saying His name has to be preferred and reverenced above all names. We are to, by addressing His name as HALLOWED, make sure we adore Him and regard Him with utmost esteem, love, honour and respect. We are not to use His name with disrespect but to trust His Holy name at all times (Psalm 33: 21). We must believe in Him completely against what ever happen to us. We are not to allow unbelief take over our hearts concerning God’s ability to solve our problems. According to one Pastor Thomas Watson, unbelief stains God’s name by making Him a liar (1 John 5: 10).
It brings tears to the eyes of those serious Christians seeing how some Christians treat the name of God these days. There seems to be no fear of God in the hearts of some of us these days. Many Christians never fear to run to sins deliberately these days. We swear by His name frivolously. We hardly give Him the desired holy and Spiritual worship with hearts of devotion (Lev. 10: 3; Rom. 12: 11). We are supposed to see Sunday Day a holy and sacred day and keep it holy. God spoke through Prophet Jeremiah that His Day, the Sabbath Day that is, the Day we set aside to rest from works must be hallowed. These days, many Christians involve themselves in unworthy actions sacrilegiously on Sunday Days.
If we call God’s name HALLOWED, we have to obey His commandments faithfully. We have to be delighted in doing His will and not our will (Psalm 40: 8). We cannot call God’s name HALLOWED when we do not ascribe to Him, the honour and majesty that are part of His attributes. The Bible says we should give unto the Lord the glory due unto His name. This involves taking offering to the court of the Lord (Psalm 96: 6, 8). Many Christians see no reason to give God quality offerings. Some give mutilated notes as financial offering. They bring to the Lord offerings that can be rejected by human beings. We must know that His name is more dignified and majestic. We must approach God at anytime and anywhere with ultimate respect. What is substandard ought not to be ascribed to our GOD.
PRAYERS:
1. Ask God in prayer today telling Him to teach you what His name really means to mankind. Tell Him not to allow you give Him lip service any more.
2. When the Holy Spirit teaches you how to address God and reverence Him, you will do it better. Therefore, ask the Holy Spirit to show you how to honour God properly.
POSITIVE CONFESSION:
I have the believe that God will henceforth show me His Majesty. Hallelujah!!!
