It is believed we are getting comfortable with this discussion now. It is all about godliness seen in the Old Testament where people of God carry out all their activities and projects to God for His acceptance. In today’s Christianity, many people seem to be doing whatever they chose without first, recourse to God. Our lead text talks about the people of God He repackaged in the heart contents. His words and Spirit will be in them and they will walk day and night after the statutes of their God. This is actually the godliness this devotional is discussing. And this is the kind of godliness today Christianity is lacking. Whoever should say “I am godly” has to be seen carrying God about in all he or she does. These were things the Old Testament fathers of faith did that God was that close to them.
One of the things that attracted God to King David is that he, as much as possible, referred whatever he did to God. He sought wisdom from God. He would ask God before going to wars with his enemies as can be seen in 1 Sam. 23: 1 – 3; 1 Chro. 14: 10. At a time King David inquired from God the strategy of how to attack the enemies from God (1 Chro. 14: 16). We can see how the Danites in Laish asked God first if the way they were to follow would be prosperous (Judges 18: 5 – 6; 2 Sam. 2: 1). The devotional is talking of godliness by which Christians do things, walk at all times and being motivated by the Spirit of God on the inside. Anything done without references to God is done carnally and cannot be godly. God has to be involved in things we do before they become godly.
Jesus Christ came with the godly mindedness, because He did all that He saw His Father did and He never did anything outside the acceptance of God. He would say “I came to do the work of my Father.” If we call ourselves Christians or believe we are called into the ministry, we ought to be godly enough to run Christianity or the ministry according to God’s patterns. Let us therefore, cleanse today’s Christianity from human laws. Let us inquire from God where to go. Let us ask God the new phase of our ministries instead of adapting into the ministries what we feel others are doing.
We will make Christianity religious when we promulgate the laws, start executing the laws and forcing people to follow our ways rather than God’s precepts upon His precepts. Many Christian leaders today bound their members from going into fellowship with other Christians. Some are made to read only their General Overseer devotionals as well as their written books. Things like these make Christianity religious and not godly. When we allow ourselves flow with God and carry Him along collectively, we will discover that the gospel permeates the globe faster and effectively. Ungodly attitudes amongst Christians have become the bane of revivals of today. The world great revivalists like Jonathan Edwards, George Whitfield, Charles Finned and William J. Seymour of the popular Azusa Street Revival had their breakthrough from allowing God chart the way forward for them. They were godly enough to depend on God for everything they did. What about you today?
PRAYERS:
1. Ask the Lord to reveal to your heart, about the new phase of the church you are a member and give you wisdom to do something in Jesus name.
2. Pray, asking God to revisit Christian leaders and reawaken the Holy Spirit in them for another round of revival globally, in the name of Jesus Christ.
3. Pray out unhealthy competitions going on around heads of denominations these days in the name of Jesus Christ.
POSITIVE CONFESSION:
I am born to cause a good change amongst my Christian brethren. My light will shine in the darkness of unbelievers.
