The Holy Bible says that “When the righteous are in authority, the people rejoice: but when the wicked beareth rule, the people mourn” (Prov. 29: 2). This is a serious statement. “When the righteous are in authority…” means when all leaders in a nation are righteous, God’s fearing, ruling through the standard set for them by God and treating people as worthy children of God, there will be rejoicing. In another angle, God’s blessing is always found in a nation that all her leaders or majority of her leaders are godly.
A godly nation is that which put God first, rules the people according to God’s ordnances and precepts. Leaders of godly nation see the natural resources of the nation as those meant for the citizens. Leaders of a godly nation sees failure to provide foods, shelters, employments, social amenities etc., to her citizens a grievous offense against God. The godly nation sees the life of her citizens very sacred. A godly nation treats all tribes, ethnic groups and foreigners alike, no discriminations. One major features of a godly nation is that plans and executions of projects are people based and people directed. When this goes on, the people rejoice, pray for their leaders and for their families.
A godly nation makes her leaders seek God’s directives for whatever should be done. The leaders of godly nation know that “The man plans his way, but the Lord establishes his steps (Prov. 16: 9). In a nation that is godly, the leaders are seen and known for fair and just in dealing with her citizens. The paramount leaders of a godly nation do not appoint the rich and wicked people but appoint the righteous ones, even if they were not too known to the society. The Holy Bible says “Better is a little with righteousness than the great revenues with injustice” (Prov. 16: 8). In a godly nation, it will be seen that the leaders are majorly people of honest, trustworthy people who listen to their overall head and to the citizens as well. Leaders in a godly nation know that “Without counsel purposes are disappointed, but in the multitudes of counselors they are established” (Prov.15: 22 KJV). The paramount head in a godly nation loves people with clean hearts and righteous lips. The scripture says here “Righteous lips are the delight of a King, and he loves him who speaks what is right” (Prov. 16: 13).
One other thing to mention is that, a godly nation develops and appoints leaders who are modest rather than leaders full of arrogance. Ungodly leaders are rash and arrogant. Godly leaders understand that ruling people with pride, arrogance and insolvency produces people with hurtful spirits. The people will resist the ungodly leaders with rebellious attitudes. The worst is that the ungodly leaders who are arrogant will surely be punished by God. Hear the Bible here: “Everyone who is arrogant is an abomination to the Lord; Be assured, he will not go unpunished.” (Prov. 16: 5). As Christians, it is our duty to examine our nation, the attitudes of our leaders and hold them in prayers to be godly. This will bring joy and happiness to the citizens. Our prayers and preaching can restore our nation to godly nation even if it is found to be not in Jesus name!
