The Lord’s Prayer “THY KINGDOM COME…” contains just three words but very deep in meaning and analysis. We Christians have repeatedly prayed “Our Father, Who is art in Heaven” over the years. Though the religiously repeating this prayer is waning as many Christians have neglected this powerful prayer. Its relevance is still overwhelming. Amongst the phrases in the prayer, “Thy Kingdom Come” needs to be looked into devotionally. To pray “Thy Kingdom Come” brings to mind that there are other kingdoms on the earth which seemed not being the kingdom Christians can fit in. Therefore, Jesus taught the Disciples to call for God’s kind of Kingdom to come to them on the earth. Yes, since Christians are God’s children and live on the earth, they cannot fit into all the earthly kingdoms. Their Father’s kind of Kingdom is the only one they can be comfortable with.
This devotional is looking at how much of the understanding of Christians saying “Thy Kingdom Come.” If we have asked God to bring down His Kingdom to the earth, how are we relating with the Kingdom; and how much of our consciousness of being in the Kingdom of God here in the world? The petition of “Thy Kingdom Come” shows we Christians are ready to be ruled and controlled by God the Almighty, who is the King over the heaven and the earth. Having prayed Thy Kingdom Come, we Christians ought to be behaving living in the Kingdom of God in relationship with God and mankind already. But, many of us look toward going to heaven and to be in the Kingdom of God after our earthly life. In as much as this view can never be put aside, Christians are supposed to know that right here on earth God is King as He is in Heaven (Psa. 48: 7). We are to agree that we have already invited His Majestic rule into the earth. He is already ruling with His Glorious Majesty here on the earth (Psa. 145: 12). We Christians are to believe that God has come down to us through the petition “Thy Kingdom Come” that God is, by faith and in the realm of the Spirit, sits upon His earthly throne in holiness. King David noted this in Psalm 47: 8.
From observations, many of us Christians are not relating with God as being our King over His earthly Kingdom yet. Most of us feel unconcerned about God’s Kingdom presence here on the earth. We go about feeling not living in the Palace of our God here in the world. When will we believe that the Kingdom of God has spiritually come to us the children of God? Many Christians reading this devotional will be concluding that what is being portrayed here is outrageous Christian philosophy. It does not matter how we feel individually about this postulation. The issue of being a Christian does not depend on individual’s objective analysis about faith; but on common faith taking what the Bible says as truth. By praying, “Thy Kingdom Come” we have to agree that Jesus said whatever we pray for and believe shall be ours (Matt. 21: 22; Mark 11: 24). If this passage should be taken serious, then, we have no reason to refuse living in God’s Kingdom already in the world.
