We were told in the last devotional that “mindset” is the gas tank (fuel in Nigeria) of human beings. It is also seen as the wind in the sails of humanity. This means we are all controlled by our mindsets. Those who set their minds on evil, violence, wickedness and demonic activities are always going about seeking for perpetual wicked activities. However, those with godly mindsets set their hearts on doing good things sleep and wake up with thoughts of how to do more good. In relationship, our mindset about someone else will make to hate or love the person. Those with mindset that people will always help them are seen getting violent when their expectation on the person is not met. Those with the mindset that things can’t always be as one expects take disappointment lighter and cool. All over the world today are seen diverse manifestations of mindsets reflecting in war, hate, anger against people and governments, religious bigotries, destructions of lives and properties. Most of the people orchestrating these heinous actions are on vengeance missions. They felt been neglected or dumped by everybody in the society.
Against the above nature of mindsets stands Christians’ type of mindsets. Christians’ Holy Book is full of instructions on positive mindsets. Anyone who becomes a Christian is expected to have the mindset renewed. Every genuine Christian must develop the mind to loving people, helping people, avoid racial and tribal discrimination. He or she must sieve the mind of harbouring wickedness, planning evils, plotting how to outwit people etc. We have to know that Christians’ mindsets are not only on going to heaven after death but how to bring value to every issue of life. Christians’ mindsets are not only on doing good things but on doing the good things that outlast him or her. Christians are meant to build their minds on things that are pure, holy, loving, praise worthy, as well as things done to glorify the name of God. Christians set their minds on bearing fruits (besides winning souls) that will remain, that is to abide (John 15: 8). On daily basis, a practical Christian thinks of how to renew his or her thinking in the knowledge of God who created him or her (Col. 3: 10). These are the like of mindsets this devotional will be addressing all through the series. The beloved, what is the picture of your mindset today?
