Yesterday’s devotional on the above topic dwelled on choice of King over a nation against God’s desire as well as choice of bad political leaders. Today’s devotional will look at choice made by transferring consequences of what is done or to be done to one’s children and grandchildren. Whether in religion or secular world, wise people understand the power of the tongues (Prov.18: 21).
Spoken words are products of choices. There is a choice to speak good words or a choice to speak destructive words. The word that comes out of our mouth can be used against or in favour of us. What we say today can be used against or in favour of us many years to come. The safest person on earth will be one who speaks rightly anytime, anywhere and any day. It is more deadly to utter out words bonded with oath. Words of oaths are spiritually witnessed and can be used against or in favour of us by our maker.
In the lead passage above, we see how the people, who were bent to kill Jesus, by choice, said His blood should rest upon them and upon their children generation to generation ahead. To them, what was said mattered less, but the evil consequences actually awaited their children and grandchildren to generations. Most of the disasters, natural and spiritual, falling upon the world now are as the result of dangerous oaths taken by our leaders, political, religious and traditional. A father will be bent on doing something too dangerous, he intentionally, by choice, says the punishments should be visited on his children. A mother will shamelessly defile matrimonial bed, yet denied and swore that if she actually did that let all her children die. Such utterance can have regrettable repercussions on the children. These and others of like manners are what our present world is suffering on.
The only way out for the suffering people as the result of the utterances from their parents, leaders and those representing them is repentance; asking God to free them from the sins of their parents, grandparents, great grandparents. After the prayers of repentance and forgiveness, we all must turn away from the evils our parents committed and turn genuinely to God. Thus God will forgive us our sins, cleanses us of the guilt of our parents and heal our lands. God is waiting for this type of prayer from people of the world daily (Ezek. 18: 19 – 21; 2 Chro. 7: 14).
We Christians in Nigeria must emphasis on this teaching in our prayer houses, churches, crusade grounds and in families. God will cancel the dangerous utterances of our parents, replace them with our confessional pleas and prayers and heal all our wounds again. Let this be done as a matter of urgency!!
PRAYER:
FATHER GOD, I stand today confessing the sins of the world of dangerous utterances that carry your wrath on the people. Have mercy and forgive all of us respectively in Jesus name.
POSITIVE DECLARATION:
I know that God is ready to heal our nations again. I therefore, prophesy peace and greatness upon my nation Nigeria in Jesus name.
