Judging from the previous series of the devotionals, one thing is synonymous with the stories/encounters of the people called and commissioned by God to be agent of change and armor bearer to their generations. They all had weaknesses! And that is because God is not looking for perfect people, He qualifies whom He calls. Moses said to God…” O my Lord, I am not eloquent… but I am slow of speech, and of a slow tongue”. And God replied him,” … who hath made man’s mouth? Or who maketh the dumb, or deaf, or the seeing, or the blind? Have not I the Lord? (Exo. 4: 10 – 11).
Gideon told the angel,” how can I save Israel? My clan is the weakest in Manasseh, and I am the least in my family”. And the angel said to him, surely, I will be with thee and thou shalt smite the Midianites as one man” (Judges 6: 15 – 16). God choose Gideon because He knows that his weakness would give God glory. It is through our weaknesses that people get to see a demonstration of God’s power and strength. But we have to accept His agenda first.
Apostle Paul wrote in Phil. 3: 7 – 8 “but whatever was gain to me, I count all things as loss for the sake of Christ. More than that, I count all things as loss compared to the surpassing excellence of knowing Christ Jesus my lord, for whom I have lost all things. I consider them rubbish, which I may gain Christ” (BSB). God is looking for whom to commission for the propagation of the gospel and the advancement of the kingdom. He is looking for who can be willing to be used despite the person’s weaknesses. When His light bacons on you, please don’t argue with Him, for He qualifies whom He calls. “But He said to me, ‘My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness. Therefore, I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may rest on me” (2 Cor.12: 9).
Remember, it wasn’t about Paul. God didn’t look at Paul’s strength; the Lord looked at Paul’s weaknesses clothed in God’s strength. When God chooses you, know that it is because He wants His strength to be shown in and through you, especially in your weaknesses.
Prayer:
Lord, I pray for grace to surrender to your will totally. I also pray for grace to follow your lead without argument.
