The discussion on who the seed of Abraham is, whether through theological view of philosophical, the view of this devotional is being or doing what the fruit from which we emerged from as the seeds is the message to note here. The Hebrew people while arguing with Jesus Christ said they were Abraham’s seeds and therefore, never need to repent and believe in Jesus as their LORD and Saviour. Christians on their parts claim being spiritual seeds of Abraham, and therefore, cannot be bothered to live by righteousness. Truth to be known here is that nobody becomes Abraham’s seeds by mere claims. One actually becomes Abraham’s seed by behaving as Abraham behaved. There has been claiming being Abraham’s seed by people from the first century till date. Those who see selves as true Abraham’s seeds proud themselves about, yet the ingredients of Abraham’s seeds are absent in them.
When the Jews agued with Jesus about being seeds of Abraham, Jesus simply observed that they call themselves seeds of Abraham, but do not do what Abraham did (John 8: 39). Abraham impressively did good things which endeared him to God. If we Christians think we are Abraham’s seeds, let the world sees his fruits in us. (1). Abraham had faith in God so much that he did all things God instructed him to do. This made God imputed into him “righteousness” (Gen. 15: 6). How much faith do we placed on God doing whatever He told us to do today? (2). Abraham never had second thought before responding to God’s order. As many times as God told Abraham to take off and go anywhere even when he did not know the place, Abraham went without questions (Gen. 12: 1-4; Heb. 11: 8). How easy and obediently do Christians respond to where God asks them to go for Him today!
(3). Abraham carried out every commandments God handled over to him and he taught his children to carry them out faithfully and obediently. Many Christian parents today leave Biblical teaching of their children to the churches. God commended Abraham for this (Gen. 18: 19). Can God recommend us to the world in this capacity today? (4). Abraham waited patiently for God all his days on the earth without shifting ground. God promised him of many Children. He did not see the actual blessing of the many children till he died. Yet, he waited in full faith and hope. These days, some Christians get angry with God and walk away; moments God’s promises seem delayed on them. (5). Abraham was a great worshipper of God who knew when to raise altars for God and offered sacrifices to Him. Question here is, do we as children of Abraham as claimed been raising holy altars and offering God sacrifices of worships today?
TAKING ACTION:
Take a sincere look into your characters as you have been claiming Abraham’s seed. Are there areas you fall far behind Abraham? Pray and ask God for grace to be in the shoes of Abraham in Jesus name.
